Default Deerdale Summer series round 1 report

Deerdale Summer Series Round 1 race report

Sunday 15th May saw the first Round of the Deerdale Off road summer series, which is supported by Schumacher Racing. The day started off, bright with a cold brisk wind, and the mandatory drivers brief. It was nice to see lots of new faces to the Track. The entry for the first round was higher than we had expected due to the fact of a late decision to hold a summer series.
28 buggy drivers booking in with an impressive 23 truggy drivers venturing to the technical but enjoyable Astro turf track

The series is a 4 round series with the best 3 to count. The format was 4 x 7 min qualifying with again the best 3 to count. Finals were scheduled for A-25 min and B-20 min

Buggy
Round 1 of qualifying started at 0905 with young racer, Luke Lee (hotbodies D8) taking TQ. Steven Bond (LRP) had dusted the cobwebs off his nitro buggy and claimed the second place with Michael Lee (hotbodies D8) taking 3rd.

Round 2 saw a change for first place with Jordan Banks bringing his LRP up to the top spot. Michael Lee 2nd and David Marshall in 3rd

Round 3 started with a light rain, which made the track a bit slippier. The winning ways were back with Luke Lee whilst Jordan was relegated to 2nd and David Marshall staying in the 3rd spot.

Round 4 was the final round and the final position’s for the finals had not been confirmed. Luke Lee took the first place with Michael following in 2nd and Jordan slipping to 3rd.

The final positions at the end of qualifying for the top 10 positions were as follows
1 Luke Lee
2 Jordan Banks
3 Michael Lee
4 John Vickers
5 David Marshall
6 Mark Wilkins
7 Steven Bond
8 Shane dye
9 Phil Bedford
10 Kayleigh Blackwood

When the Finals started the slight rain, that had fell on the track, had stopped and the track had started to dry out. With the top 3 from the buggy B final to bump up it was all too race for. The top 5 positions in the B final were as follows
1 Martin Pearson
2 Richard Preston
3 Robert Coatesworth
4 Jason Elliott
5 Paul Avery

Then onto the A final. With the qualifying places changing from round to round we knew that the final would be close. The 25 min final started with Luke in pole position and Robert Coatesworth bringing up the rear in 13th place.

The final positions from the A final were as follows
1 Luke Lee
2 Jordan banks
3 Martin Pearson
4 Michael Lee
5 John Vickers
6 Richard Preston
7 Mark Wilkins
8 David Marshall
9 Steven Bond
10 Robert Coatesworth

Truggy
With the impressive truggy turn it was anyone’s race to win, as there was some new faces competing.

Round one opened, a few eyes with Tony Drabble taking the first qualifying round with his NEW Serpent S811 Truggy with a impressive 10 laps. Young Arron Girling (Losi) taking second place and Jack Keatley (Losi) returning to Deerdale with his truggy, taking 3rd.

Round 2 Saw Tony taking the pole position again, Jason Cook (LRP) deciding to pull up his socks, took 2nd place and Daniel Geeson taking a impressive 3rd place.

Round 3 again as with the buggies the track was slightly damp which saw a reduction in traction. Tony was still impressing with his New Serpent Truggy, as it had on just been built with no track time prior to the meeting. Jason stayed in 2nd and Arron moving back to the top steps of the rostrum in 3rd.

Round 4 saw a slight slip from Tony who finished 3rd, Neil Sivins bringing his Losi into 2nd and Arron taking the Top spot.

The top 10 places after the 4 rounds were as follows

1 Tony Drabble
2 Arron Girling
3 Jason Cook
4 Phillip Welch
5 Graham Grice
6 Vince Ping
7 Paul Haddock
8 Steve Komarek
9 Jack Keatley
10 Chris Jeffery

The Truggy B final was a 20 min race with Dean Coupland taking his new Serpent Truggy into first place after lapping the entire field by 2 laps with Keith Bellamy and Jonathan Weldon also bumping up to the A final.

The A final was a 25 min race with Tony on Pole position and Jonathan bringing up the rear in 13th place. The final was run on a now dry track and produced some very close racing. Tony was on the pace with a Best time of 42.06 with Jason and Arron very close behind. On lap 16 unfortunately Arron dropped out with car trouble, which allowed everyone to move up a place. After the 25 min, and some fast frantic pit stops Tony took his new serpent truggy from TQ to 1st place in the A final with 33 laps. Dean Coupland who had bumped up from the B final, made it a impressive 1 - 2 for the new Serpent truggy as he moved from his 11th place start, to finish 2nd on 32 laps. Both of the cars had a impressive first outing taking into account that they were still being built at 8 o’clock Sunday morning and had never seen the track prior to the start. Jason Cook finished in 3rd place. The Top 10 were as follows

1 Tony Drabble
2 Dean Coupland
3 Jason Cook
4 Phillip Welch
5 Jack Keatley
6 Vince Ping
7 Chris Jeffery
8 Steve Komarek
9 Graham Grice
10 Paul Haddock
