Just wasnt sure about the bolt spacing as Xray tend to be a little funky. ALso wondered about the thickness of the spur as the 808 spur runs runs fair close to the bulkhead from what I remember..

I havent built one myself but Dan from rcroductdesigns says it will fit and he's pretty experienced with the conversion kits.
Which one does the castor use? |

The Castor one is using a steel spur - with a plastic one being released later.
They have also produced their own pinions in 12 and 13t. Pete |

Thanks for your help chaps I have ordered a Kyosho Spur and will either modify that to fit the Xray or RC8. If not, I have been offered a cheap Kyosho 777 which I assume will be a straight bolt on fit?
I may have an RC monster converted RC8 or Novak converted Xray for sale if so

FYI : Just copied this form another forum re RC8 and the kyosho spur:
"The RC8 uses a modified IF148 46T spur. I do the Mods then you do some changes in the shimming on the gears in the inside of the diff." From rcproductdesigns. |

At the moment Im hamering motors and spedos in it to see how various combops hold up - I kno0w I can read it all on the US forums but nothing like doing it yourself. I have a meeting this weekend at stoke but Il be running my nitro as its been too long since I raced that. Its years since Ive done much 1/10th stuff but it would be cool to get to one and have a play it sound like there are a few of you guys who attend nationals with them now. No chance of heat on the side I take it !
Cool - yep the Kyosho spur fits right on the K car The diff does also drop in other cars but never tried it on either of your two but prob worth a try. Pete |

If there is any chance of video of any of these 1/8 electric buggys that some of you are working on,i am sure more than just me would love to see them going or pic`s of builds ect.

Just to confirm, the Kyosho Plastic spur will fit the Xray diff as a bolt on upgrade. No more chewed up pinions hopefully!!
Here are some pics of my Brushless Xray (with the Kyosho Spur).. Damn these things are a mess of wires!!!

Helpful photos HKP, how do you rate Novak conversion / setup?
Are you running that on 3s? Is that the Novak battery tray? Was it not possible to use the original strap? How is the velcro secured? |

The Novak conversion is nice.. it looks expensive compared to the RC monster motor mount and battery boxes, but it is a pretty much plug and play solution. I'm using the RC monster setup in my RC8 (with Novak 5.5 HV) and it runs hotter, the Novak motor heatsink is VERY effective
Yep, got a 3S in there until I get 4S, you lose a bit of top end for sure, but for tight tracks (like EPR) it would be fine. I'm thinking the MaxAmps 4S 25C 4000mah might be the best pack for these cars. The velcro is left over from when I had 2 x 2S packs side by side in the tray, it is actually really effective and hasn't budged yet so I might just keep it. Tom

Thanks Tom, I'm probably going to give a Novak conversion a go. I've not got a buggy yet though. The RC8 is my favourite at the moment, which do you think is toughest when compared to the Xray?
I've never used MaxAmps, but they seem to have a huge following in the US. I've been using TrakPower in my 1/10th cars, so I'd like to get 2 4900 sticks side by side in the Novak tray, I think they'll go in okay. Velcro may be a good way to secure them. In yours is the velcro looped through slots in the tray or held some other way? Ian |

I have known so many people with both and the RC8 tends not to be the favourite of many. The Xray spares are a lot dearer but you will need a hell of a lot less. The RC8 can be very quick round a track but is known to be on the erratic side handling wise and very hard to get consistent. Pete |
