Default bodies in post

hi guys no pics but a question to those who post shells in post or courier.
i had a guy from australia telling me that he has had shells posted to him for £4. im in uk and spent hours getting prices the cheapest being £29.70. i thought that was reasonable considering its going across the world, but clearly not. it usually costs £4-5 1st class recorded to get shells moved about in uk

please leave your ideas,

Agree with Jon, once they are painted though, they need to be expedited, and that just costs!

i think he got them from uk , shells are painted , as you know once put in correct size container, which isnt all that big or heavy , best price i got was from a friend who runs his own courier, he tells me to find out who did it £4 and he will use them and retire, lol, this is a one off as i had no intention of sending shells but because i was involved in trying to find a courier i couldnt find ANYone to do it for under £30 (dhl) so if anyone has names of firms that can beat this please post , this will be most helpful in future. its fair to say i wouldnt pay £30 for postage for 2 shells painted or not!

He's pulling your leg, you will strugle to send an A4 envelope to Aus for £4, I sent a kyosho MP9 out there last year, £75 surface, 6 weeks plus to get there with no tracking, with tracking would be £120ish airmail, but the chap wouldn't pay that much....it took over two months to get there in the end

shouldn't be anymore than about £9 for a couple of shells standard airmail.

reason i asked what they were is it is affected by size and weight.

http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/c...iaId=118600858

once over 2kg it goes way up. also, once over the size limitation it goes way up. which is a combined measurement of 90cm(l+w+h)

If an item is big but light then shipping to Oz is disproportionately expensive.

This is because shipping companies charge by a system called volumetric weight.

This works by having a set minimum weight for any given volume, which is why you will be asked for the size of your package.

You may find a cheaper company than royal mail but you wont find a baragin.

Its a bummer for sure!

Yeah just use Royal Mail std airmail. I have sent allsorts to Australia and touch wood never had anything go missing. If you use the online calculator then you wont get an accurate costing as the size of the parcel will automatically calculate the weight as someone has mentioned. If i was quoting then id say about a tenner max for a parcel that contains two shells via std airmail. if it needs to be tracked then you have to pay more, if hes buying thats his risk not yours !

went to post office today, with insurance , £13.20 ,airmail service which i think is cheap but with no tracking dont know if its worth it! if i want it tracked and insured the price goes up, weight was only 500grms which is nothing, size was equivlant to bodyshell in a box with no room ,lol been a good exercise though
