Motor Issue
Hi All,
I have a brushless motor which, as of yesterday, has stopped working if it stops at a certain point in the revolution. So, lets say it stops when the flat bit (where the pinion grub screw fastens to) is at 1 o'clock. If I spin it when applying power it spins up fine and works. I can even spin it a quarter turn and then apply power and it works. I can stop and start the motor as long as it does land at 1 o'clock. If it does, it won't spin up at all and the car needs a push start I suspect the sensor wire is faulty. (Perhaps one of the wires). Unfortunately, its hard-wired at the motor end so I can't just replace it. It looks fine at the ESC connector end. Does anybody have any advice on how to fix this? Or workout what is actually wrong? Cheers, Stuart |

I sounds like either the sensor wire like you think, or more likely it's the sensor board inside the motor itself at fault. What motor is it that has it hard wired?
There's a slim chance it could be the ESC itself but I doubt it.

Ok, so I manage to get another motor to test with and the same thing happened. So the old motor is fine. (In theory).
So I guess its the ESC. Could it be that its not providing power to one of the coils? I'm not sure how to test that. Or could it still be something to do with the sensor wire, or at least the sensor wire connection on the ESC? S. |

you could try pugs on here, but in all honesty it may be worth buying a new speedo

Yeah, so it looked like the speedo had burnt out one of the surface mount FETs.
So I took it off, which was difficult as I had one hand with my fingers crossed. :-P :-P I was hoping that doing so would sort out the sticking problem, even if it didn't have all the power available... It didn't. So I'm going to switch the mode to 'brushed' and see if it works with a brushed motor, meanwhile a Reedy ESC is on its way :-) Lets see what happens.. Stuart |
