KF2 Shock Piston Drilled
Hi,
Needing a small amount of advice I've noticed on a lot of KF and KF2 setup sheets from various drivers that on the rear shocks they show the pistons as being drilled. I know the kit rear piston on the KF2 is 1.6, so does this mean they are being drilled larger than the standard 1.6mm ? I'm using emulsion shocks and with 400 oil, they are very sluggish, so was wondering if a lot of setups are drilling out the pistons to larger holes than 1.6 ? Appreciate people's thoughts and advice Jason |

Jason,
The Pistons supplied in the KF and K1 Aero came as 1.2 or 1.3mm I beleive so hence the drilled to 1.6mm for the rear shocks Ive not got the KF2 so didn't even know the kit came with 1.5 and 1.6mm pre-drilled pistons, although I can't seem to find a part number as yet !

Thanks, this may be why I'm getting confused lol
What I have in the front shocks is U3770 which I've been told are 1.5mm and I have U4701 in the rear's which are 1.6. Have I got this completely wrong? Cheers, Jason |

In the original kf the Pistons were the same front and rear. Many people drilled out the rears to 1.6-1.7mm. In the new kf kit the rear pistons are the right size so no drilling required.
Look on petit rc for a setup, I generally go for 550 front and 400 rear in the kf2. Have a look at Darren Bloomfielfd setup for the original KF and you won't be far wrong. I can help you out next Thursday if you like?

Now that makes perfect sense!
Thanks Dobber, think I could be picking everyone's brain next Thursday!! I'm already pretty close to Darren's setup, I'm just not happy with the way the rear shocks are reacting, so will rebuild them again to make sure. First shakedown with the KF2 this Sunday after a few years away, so could be chaos with the thumbs! |
