Default Roger Wood Meeting Race Report

Well what a successful 2017 5th Annual Roger Wood memorial meeting that was!

First of all we need to say a big thanks to all involved with setting up the meeting, organising all of the Tyres and Deals with CML, setting up an awesome track and running the meeting, without these guys the club would not be running as smoothly as it is in recent years so in no particular order thanks to:- Darren Wales, Neil Burdess, Stu Wood, Rob Mills, Mark/Scott Broadbent and Mike Bradbury and all of the members who help us out along the way.

Right then, tyres and in particular the Proline Pin Points on the rear, wow how much grip!! This was a big gamble for the club, but we wanted to try something new for the 5th Annual Roger Wood meeting and it payed off big time, the track started out slightly damp with a layer of morning dew, it soon became apparent that the Proline Pin Points on the rear offered more than enough grip in these conditions, the front Proline Wedge tyres were not as good in the damp conditions, but once a few adjustments were made the 2wd drivers soon got their cars flying around. 4wd was a different story with the Proline Pin Points on the front offering way too much grip and a big hair cut of between 6 to 7 rows required.

Qualifying started with the track drying all day, with just a small section in the middle of the track staying slightly damp all day. 4 rounds of qualifying with the best 2 to count. In 2wd it was Bury’s own Luke Holdsworth who would hold onto the TQ spot with his Team C placing two low scores in round 1 & 2, Richard ‘Tricky’ Taylor (Schumacher) and Matt Dodd (Schumacher) rounded the top 3 out in 2 wheel drive. In 4wd qualifying it was the Connor Cocker and Josh Holdsworth show with these swapping places throughout the day and Conner flying with his new Xray XB4, next battle was Joel Maher and Neil Burdess both with their xrays fighting for the number 3 spot.

Vintage qualifying was dominated by Martin Mills and Trucks by Neil Burdess both TQ’ing all 4 rounds.

Between the Heats and Finals we did the raffle for a Team Associated B6D, this was won by one of our new members Liam Crompton, Liam has since donated the car to another new driver Jake Pope, so that was good that it’s gone to a member that will actually use it and not just sell it on.

We also need to thank Mrs Wood (Jean) first of all the years Roger spent down at the track, secondly for kindly donating trophies for the top 3 in each class. The Bury Metro team presented Jean with a lovely bunch of flowers.

Onto the finals, the weather stayed nice and dry with just a couple of spots of rain before the 4wd main final. Winners of each final as follows, well done to all:-

2wd E Final – William Hodkinson
2wd D Final – Duncan Lomas
2wd C Final – Neil Ralph
2wd B Final – Ian Joyner
2wd A Final – Richard Taylor
4wd B Final – Mike Bradbury
4wd A Final – Connor Cocker
Vintage Final – Rob Mills
Truck Final – Neil Burdess

All the winners of each final were awarded with a nice big cupcake which they had to eat whilst marshalling. Trophies for the top 3 in each class were presented after the finals.

All in all top day, the tyres worked very well and everyone had lots of fun.

Photos of all the winners below (in no particular order), final results are also attached.
