Default Pete Stevens

Was sad news to hear at drivers briefing this monring at the national, that Pete 'Awesome' Stevens passed away yesterday.

Many may not know who he is but he was a very inspirational figure in RC racing for many years in many classes and I'm sure he will be missed.

Thoughts go out to his family.

Gutted to hear this. Pete was an awesome guy, on and off the track and always willing to help anyone who asked him.

It was people like Pete who made the tamiya eurocup so enjoyable. My thoughts go out to his family.

Sad to hear, one my rc heroes and who didn't have something from Petes Awesome Products bolted to their car back then.

R.I.P. Pete.

Raced with Pete for many years in 1/10th off road. Did his bodyshells years ago and he kept the same colours we designed some 15 years ago.
It was a PLEASURE knowing Pete for over 20 years and he will be so sadly missed – Our deepest condolences to his family

Coming back into the 'RC Sport' a few years ago, there was no mention of his name etc. But i originally did RC many years ago and Pete's Awesome Products were always being used and loved by many.

Sad day when one of the originals from the 'sport' goes.

Will be in peoples hearts and minds forever though.

I'm sure i've still got some stickers actually... I'll have to find them out and frame them as another RC Memory.

R.I.P Pete

Sad news indeed, Pete was a legend to anyone who was racing in the 90s.

Still got a Petes Awesome Products sticker on my toolbox. He used to supply my trackside shop, much to the annoyance of the 'proper' model shops nearby.

Really sad to hear this, i always remember racing against Pete & Mike Penfold at West London in the 90's, many regional meetings were held there and Pete was always good with his Cat 2000!

Thoughts and wishes to all his family, he will be greatly missed!!

Great bloke, a true character of the Pits who could have everybody rolling round the floor laughing one minute then promptly thrash you on the track the next.

Will be sadly missed

Such sad news. Pete was not just one of the early pioneers of Off-Road and TC racing, he was also one of the world's great characters. Here's a typical bit of Pete mischief...

As some may know, Pete's trade was as a carpenter, and he made a living at one time fitting kitchens in posh houses in London. He agreed to do me a bespoke kitchen for my house in Watford, and spent a week in the house. One day, the 'phone goes, and my wife answers it. Could the caller speak to Pete? No problem...

The caller is Mike Drescher. He asks Pete what he's doing there, and Pete infers he is having an affair with my wife. When I get home that night we all have a great laugh over a drink and some dinner, and wonder what Mike will do next. At the next National, we overhear Mike telling someone else, so we both bowl into the tent and Pete lets fly with a stream of invective telling Mike that he was supposed to keep it a secret. I then let fly with another stream of invective telling Mike I though he was my friend and would have told me, and then at Pete for being a snake in the grass. Mike has no idea where to put himself, and Pete spends the rest of the meeting making Mike's life a total misery!!

I am not sure if Mike ever got to know the truth, but it was the best any of us could do to keep a straight face whenever he had another go at Mike.

It's a sad day for me, as Pete was often my passenger on the way to Nationals, and a good friend. To Paul, our deepest sympathy. To his great friend Nino, I hope you are OK. My life is better for having known Pete, who was even more awesome than his products!

this is so sad pete comes from the same mold as the likes of jamie booth phil davis really nice guys, and always ready to offer his advice, and help.

i first met him about 20 odd years ago when i first started.
all the top racers of the day were there to help the kids, and pete was one of those top guys.

r.i.p. pete you will be missed.

sad sad news, never met him personally but remember watching him at the worlds '87 in Romsey, him and Jamie Booth were both in the A final. He was one of the big stars when I first started.

RIP legend

Just picked up on this, very sad news indeed

Both me and my old man knew Pete through the late 80's and going into the early 90's when we set out & started our shop, as well as being an invaluable help initially, personally he was a terrific guy and will be sadly missed.
