I'm sure this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it...

Thx! So it's "nylon" dye I need then?

I tried (almost dear not say it) "Natural fibre dye", with salt etc... my hands are nicely black, rims only slightly grey... (To my defense it's the only thing they had in stock)

LOL! Well... I saw that it just didn't stick to the wheels... so I cleaned them in water... with my hands... doh!

I'm like an inverted african now, white body and black palms...

LOL! Her comment yesterday was: "If this had been just before the wedding you'd be dead meat!"

Gonna do a full day of windsurfing tomorrow, let's hope that rubs most of if off...

Haha! First I thought you put your hands in the boiling water...

Good luck Shy!

Btw! You should have been at the race yesterday! Great fun! Even if the track was all messed up by the rain

How could I forget...

Got this tip today:
http://www.rcnitrotalk.com/13/dye-rims-with-rit-dye/

-which is basically what I did, I just used the wrong type of dye. Plus 10x too much salt...

I used to do this years ago. The name of the dye is called Dylon and comes in small silver disc like tins and can usually be found in hardware shops and some of the bigger Woolworths. Put the dye in a pan with a bit of salt and water and boil your wheels or nylon parts until they go the colour you want, but put all the parts in at the same time or you will get different shades of the colour.
BIG WORD OF WARNING Use an old pan that you dont cook in anymore as mum was not impressed when she boiled potatoes in the pan and they came out pink after I used red dye. She could not understand what had happened and never did find out.
ANOTHER WORD OF WARNING
If your parts are not nylon they may disform when you boil them and may not dye very well.
This practice was first used by RC Plane flyers, they used to dye and boil nylon props. The process makes the nylon stronger as it adds moisture into the nylon, making it a bit more flexible.

Mission complete!

Right type of dye (for nylon) and vinegar in stead of salt... good result!

My hands are even getting whiter

So what kind of dye did you use? (will any nylon dye work?)

Where did you buy it? (I live in Norway too )

And whats with the vinegar?

I have a CRP front suspension for a Futaba FX10 that I want to dye and put on my Grasshopper.

Buy it at Clas Ohlson or Jernia. It's called "Herdins Textile Colour, Multifibre". I used a casserolle, one small pack of colour, ca. 1 liter of water (use as much as suitable for the casserolle), 1 dl 7% vinegar.

(as described in instruction manual)

I have an old crock pot that I use on its low setting. It works great. I used to use an old coffee maker and that was very good also

i have dyed my b4 wheels many time to a great result

firstly wash wheels even if new in washing up liquid and rinse thouroughly
old pan boil water
add 2 tablespoons of salt and stir
cut dylon dye at top and chuck in whols capsule
stir
place rims through cable tie for easy removal
add rims keep an eye on medium to high heat shouldnt take more than few minutes
this is the dye i used for dying as previously said by decal designs

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dylon-Multi-Pu...3286.m20.l1116

hope this helps?i have done this many times without fail

pointers
dye will not dye over superglue on old rims
use old pan
dont water the mix in to two pans (for more)after use

cheers fellas
