Default Big Bore Sock Oil?

Hi guys just need to know the best oil to use for big bore shock oil running on med-high grip astro turf. Thanks guys.

you shouldn't choose oil to suit the shocks you run what ever is needed for that track,

Topic = sock oil?!

Well, for the really big bore socks like these, I tend to use Castrol


....but I dont normally run them on astro.

hi mate, im running 35weight associated oil all round with 6 hole pistons rear and 4 hole front with 3.5 pound springs all round, seems to work for me

Hi, I had major issues with the shocks when I originally set my SV2 up but under recommendation from Simon Moss I went with this setup and the car is on rails and jumps/lands like it's on a string

Front
Core 450 oil
3.5 spring
3 hole tapered 1.4 (Nicks pistons)
Cut bladders set with zero rebound
Optional shock mount (4mm lower)

Rear

Core 350 oil
2.5 spring
3 hole tapered 1.6 (Nicks pistons)
Cut bladders set with zero rebound
Shock mount mod (4mm lower)

Thanks on behalf of my son (cougar99) for this. He's 13, I'm 37 and have tried my best to help him out with this. I bought him a cougar sv for Christmas to get him into something I loved 22 years ago, I helped him as much as I could but have very limited knowledge. I've bought myself a cougar sv2 since and am really enjoying getting involved with the whole scene, taking him to meetings and both of us learning from more experienced drivers. posts like yours will encourage him to better himself in time. He finished the mid west regionals 76th this year and I know he will improve on this next year. Still not sure I will tho, old dog/new tricks etc

It depends a lot on personnel preference but I find my car jumps/lands more consistent when running cut bladders/emulsion, I found this to be the same with my Losi 22 last season too.

Even tho I preferred the cut bladders/emulsion in my Losi 22 last season I still tried the SV2 with the bladders in at the start off this season but after a couple of meetings I built them up as emulsion shocks and have not gone back
