Default NEW indoor venue a successful weekend

Press release....

The South West of England opened its doors to a new BRCA Affiliated Indoor Venue in June 2016.

After of 6 months of planning and a huge effort from volunteers Mid Devon RC Raceway "MDRCR" which is based at the Culm Valley Sports Centre in Cullompton Devon showcased an off-road opening event on the weekend of Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th June 2016.

Volunteers turned up on the Saturday to help out with the setting up of the indoor track & pit area as well as the rostrum and race control so that it would be ready for the race meet which would be taking place on the Sunday.

It was an early start on the Sunday morning with the doors opening at 8am, drivers arrived early to be sure of finding that all important pit area for the day.

The track was open for practice for drivers until booking in closed at around 9am, there were eight heats in total, four rounds of qualifying with the best two rounds to count, the heats were put together, printed off and displayed on the wall with the drivers briefing taking place shortly afterwards.

The first heat was on the line at 9.20 with the micro’s going out first, qualifying continued with the 4WD & 2WD heats taking place after that. There were a few technical issues in the early stages with regards to the timing gear and loop along with a few minor track repairs needed however these issues were quickly resolved in order for the event to continue running smoothly without any major problems.

One of the event organizers Steve Ashton said " We have been planning and organizing this event for some time now and its was great to finally get underway with it". " It was fantastic to see a great turn out for our opening event which was set up for us to showcase the venues potential as well providing us with the opportunity to run a real event ahead of our first ever Winter series that gets underway starting with R1 on Sunday 4th September". " The volunteers who have helped out over the last six months as well as the people involved in the lead up to the weekend have all gone that extra mile to support us, we really appreciated the support from all of the volunteers dedicating their time to "MDRCR"

The event was sponsored & supported by our local RC Shop "RC Octane" in Dunkeswell, Devon, who kindly allowed us to use their indoor track at their RC shop in preparation for our big event, they were also trackside on the Sunday for driver essentials such as tyres, wheels, inserts and much more, we would like to say a huge thank you to them for their support and to the team at Culm Valley Sports Centre for being so accommodating in the lead up to the event and throughout the weekend.

Lastly but by no means least to all of the drivers for attending as well as their feedback post event.

The team now has the rest of the summer to gather feedback, look at what worked well, look at what could be done better, finely tune these areas so that when we return for the winter series of racing we are ready for action.
