i'm all for the blinky mode on ESC's (for starters i haven't had to fork out £150 on a speedo to keep more on the pace of the top guys) but 1 thing does concern me... Yes, timing advance is banned on ESC's, but am I right in assuming motor timing advance (on motors that can be advanced) is allowed?
If that is the case, what is the point of banning ESC timing & then allowing motor timing? Surely it would make more sense to have zero timing on 10.5 motors to even out the field, removing any advantage (& slow the cars which is the whole point of having a blinky rule) or just allow timing on 13.5 motors so they can run in with the 10.5's on the saturday. Plus surely if the motor timing is advanced, technically speaking, doesn't that motor then become a modified motor? |

Advancing the motor timing should give more torque accross the rev range, and subsequently more power. However, you'll also be getting the motor hotter at the same time so you won't be able to go mad. Before we started getting boosted speedos, we played with the motor timing in 10.5 and found that anything more than about 10 degrees just meant the motor got too hot during the run. Also, once we'd found the best compromise, we never changed it. |

Entries are now open chaps! I've pasted the following into my original post, but to save you the hassle here it is;
Entries are now open for the 2011/12 nationals. To access the system, please click here; http://www.brca.org/?q=catalog/81 Please note that you must be registered on the site and logged in to enter an event. If you are not yet registered on the site, use the link in the right hand menu and follow the instructions. Hopefully most of you will have registered last year, so it'll be a much smoother process for you this time round. Entries are taken on a first come, first served basis, and are only confirmed once payment has been made. |

Is there a bodyshell list for the nationals anywhere,
the BRCA site seems to suggest only the EFRA shells are legal (there are only about 4 on their list), yet Jim Spencer was telling me last night there are more from last years list BRCA still allowed & pretty much all the open cockpit shells have been taken off the list. Can anyone confirm this? |

Cheers Glenn, however that was kind my reason for asking what this years list was as it seems there isn't one other than a suggestion that the EFRA shells are legal, so doesn't really answer my question other than knowing what the open cockpit shells are that are being removed.. I've got a brand new closed cockpit shell sitting here & another one sat in the model shop waiting for me, however it's not on the EFRA list, so the question i suppose is can i use them in the BRCA nationals or have i got to order something like a Bomb-R or the AMR12 which are on the EFRA list.

Altho i am only doing limited nationals and will be my first year in racing 1/12th it seems i have made wise choices in gear selection.
I have 2 AMR12 shells sprayed up and waiting for collection so i have nothing worry about if i do attend a national. It seems all my question asking has payed off. Many thanks to all who have given me advice.

Whilst I appreciate there is a bodyshell list, the reality is that there are three shells that work on the track. Most popular is the Protoform AMR12, which works well everywhere, especially in Modified. Next up is the Black Art/CRC Bomb'r. This has more steering, and is favoured by some drivers and useful in Spec class. Least popular is the Parma EE1, which tends to give more mid-corner rotation at the expense of turn in and exit speed.
Most people would choose the AMR12 for both classes. HTH |

We have been running 10.5 blinky at the club I go to for a couple of months now, and what we find is that motors that can have the timing advanced run at around 58mmpr, whilst my original GM (with the fixed endbell) runs higher at around 62.5mmpr. There is next to no differance in the performance of the motors however the advanced timing guys motors are mega hot at the end whilst mine is not even slightly warm by the end of the run! So, it may be the case as the season progresses that people wind the timing back from the endbell and gear it up instead. Works for me at the club! Cheers.

I've just got a Speed Passion GT EX 1S for this series and that's not on the list but the identical Hobbywing Xerun 120A-1S is.
Who is the best person to contact about this discrepancy? |

Mark Stiles or SlowOne on here should be able to help or look up the 12th committee via the BRCA site
