hmm that looks very nice, best get some front towers in the pit box if you go for one, the last car they were fragile, looking at those photos, that tower on astro

bet it costs a few quid..

As for fragile it was mostly how people built them, rarely broke mine and when I did it would have killed just about anything.
I posted plenty of information on how to build a near bullet proof ZX5-FS

Roger, are you still using the ZX5 or have you moved on to a different car?

Still with the ZX5 and will be until the ZX6 lands.

I'm currently running a modified version using a shorty pack down one side built out of the original plastic chassis. I wanted to get a feel for what a shorty 4wd would feel like with the Lazer's geometry and I can tell you it's very nice indeed.
Took a bit of time to get a setup I like to work from but now I am a shorty believer

Will you buy on launch or wait to see if there are any problems that need ironing out?

it was mostly how people built them ... I cannot agree with that. I really loved the handling of this car and although I consider myself as a smooth driver I was always afraid when the car touched something that it would break. From the money I have spent on front towers and gearbox internals I could have bought another kit. In my eyes (and I am not the only one) the ZX-5 was one of the most fragile cars out there, certainly when run on astro. Maybe it just suffered from the combination "designed years ago + nowadays massive brushless lipo power". If they get this sorted with the ZX-6 it will be great.

LOL, I understand exactly what you mean.

I have stopped driving miss Daisy a year ago and have chosen to drive the car in my sig.
She maybe doesn't have the finesse or the looks from miss Daisy, but I can count on her and she is cheap too! I have put at least 125 lipo's * 8 minutes (that is with a highly boosted 6.5 on astro) through her without changing a thing to the transmission, except for the center outdrives once(that's should be fixed with the evo set now). Still have to break the first tower/arm/steering block with it!

The gearbox internals are one of the best that I have come across!

Its not like the b44's. Now they are weak!

I've put 1 crown wheel set in my fs2sp since I built the car. Just a matter of shimming it properly which sometimes means more / different shims to that supplied in the kit. I run a heavily boosted 6.5 or 5.5 with no issues.

Front towers are mostly due to over tightening the screws to the mount and not reversing the shock mounting screws as I advise.

Same story for mounts / gearbox cases, just snug up slightly longer cap head bokts with plastic washers under the heads of the screws.

Yes you had to pay attention when you built a zx5 but it wasn't fragile in itself like some other 4wd cars out there. That said I didn't seem to have the problems others had with predators either.

Either way the zx6 looks to have guarded against most of those issues.

Yes I have built the towers with the screws behind etc., and yes I have shimmed the diffs always with additional shims. I drove in the national top 3 with the car and have + 20 years of experience in RC, from which 8 years with Kyosho Germany factory support... IMO it required a lot of maintenance if ran regularly on astro and the towers, well they(all sorts from plastic to carbon and everything in between) snapped just too often. This discussion has already been made long time ago so let's look forward: If they get the little things sorted out the ZX-6 will be a great car, no doubt!

This also looks like a good design basis for the next 2wd machine?

Nice to see how on their first product pictures there are 3D printed parts In case anyone's wondering, I'm referring to the gearbox-chassis braces that replace the top plate they used on their prototype - and before I forget, the shorty battery holder plate too!

It also indicates that the prototype might have had too little flex (which I wouldn't be too surprised about considering the alu chassis).

Default Manual

Just had a look and it looks like a confusing build due to having the multiple layout and servo position all in one manual. It's a shame they didn't have two separate manuals.

Still no news on the price and release date yet then?

Default Cost

I think if it's anywhere around the £400 to £450 mark it could well price is self out of the market, especially as gear diffs could be a costly upgrade. It will be interesting to see a price.

I'm surprised no shops in the uk have put up a pre order yet, usually once the kit is announced the pre orders pop up within a few days usually ...
