Mini Pins on an X2C

Hi, Just wondering if anybody is running Schumacher Mini Pins on their X2C's?

I am racing on indoor carpet and struggle a bit with understeer with staggered tyres and have resorted to 50 grams of weight up front and no weight anywhere else to get a good setup.

I think I am going to try to remove all weight and try Mini Pins all round.

What are other people doing with their carpet setups?

Paul Upton uses pins, the only other option would be Cut Stagger?

Have you tried the changing the springs/oils/shock positions?

One thing to consider, have you got too much rear end as this will give you less steering.

I'm sure Paul, Alec, or any of the Telstar Guys will be willing to share/guide you with setups.

Paul's only recently moved to the 'slim pin' method (at the BWOC i think) but has been using hand cut staggers before that. I use normal staggers as does Alec i think (may be wrong).

With regards to weight, it's just the under Lipo weight (62g) that's being used indoors at the moment, and that was with Paul & Alec trying different weights in different places etc

What sort of oil / springs you running in the shocks?

I am running with stock springs and shocks with Associated oil 30 front and 25 back.

I have weighed my car and with the 50 grams up front on staggers where it seems to work best, the distribution is 37% front and 63% back with the whole thing weighing in at 1580 grams.

Shock positions on the front are in at the top out at the bottom and the backs are running in the middle.

It goes well but still understeers a fair bit on the open corners.

I use the Mini Pins, but had to dremel away two series of pin outside and one inside, otherwise it's going to have too much grip on front.

Dom, i noticed your understeer but i think your not getting the full travel of your servo... is there a gap between the wishbone and the hub when turned if so how big is that gap?

check your end points against another x2c...

Cheers Greg, got that sorted a few weeks back with a new Savox. My old one was really underpowered. I am going to give the pins a go with no extra weight and see what happens.

Bit worried about ending up with a car that is quicker around the track but not so enjoyable to drive.

I run pins on a thin rims, I find it gives me loads of steering up front.

I have a mad rat but the tyre set ups shoul be the same, I use dboot terabyte a compound on the read and then Schumacher cut staggers on the frot and it is perfect for carpet

No, just the standard ones that come with the X2c Kit.
Really nice quality and no leaks.

are you sure your end points are right?
you shoudl be able to change it on your TX depending on what youve got?

Yes it goes from lock to lock now. That was an expensive fix!

My old ESC only put out 1.5 amps and couldn't power a high torque servo without the receiver glitching. A new Orion Esc and one Savox later and its all working well. The old servo seemed OK Stationary, but under the pressure of going around the track just didn't have the power to steer it to full lock.

Just need more grip up front now, Hopefully the pins will do the trick!

Hmm now you have fixed that I think you might be going back to your staggers

You wouldn't believe how much more steering you get from having a decent servo.

I have raced 4 times since doing the servo, still with understeer so I think pins are going to be the way to go. I really appreciate all the help!

Is this for racing at Moulton? If so the car will definitely feel like it has less steering. Have a word with Paul Upton and he'll confirm this. My car will always have understeer there and be fine on the same setup elsewhere, this is not a dig at the venue, but just an observation. You'll just have to adjust your setup to suit and remember that staggers will be the better option at most tracks

Yes Moulton. I guess if the pins are a bit of a handfull there, then anywhere else they could be too much. I won't bin the staggers yet!
