Default Optima Mid Truck Conversion Kit

Hi All,

I recently bought another Turbo Mid to restore and it arrived with some monster truck wheels fitted and front/rear body mounts as in below pic. Was this a kit made by JG?

I have no use for it now so if anyone is after it just PM me.

Dan

Anyone notice the picture of the mid in the article, it has a wire wing mount and regular optima wheels on it. I have seen official Kyosho pics that show the first mid like this.
I want to replicate the wire wing mount but can't figure out how the lower mounting points are set up, anyone got any ideas?

You need schumacher style bullet wing mounts holder. basically its a bullet like shape with a M3 tap inside that you attach to the shock tower, and the other side is a small hole the size of the wire wing mount with a small set screw to jam the wire. You then bend a wire to the shape needed and use button clamps to screw on the wing to the wire. I may have the mounts somewhere, gotta look for them. The last i remembered they were pretty worn. Yes i remember the kyosho box itself showing the optima mid that way. if I am not mistaken the 1989 kyosho catalog has the same pics, lemme go home and scan them for you guys.Yes i have the 1989 kyosho catalog !

I think the YZ10 uses a similar design?

I haveba set of Parma wire wing mounts that should do the job. Going by the pic the wing mounts are lower down, probably mounted off the lower plate that the rear upper links bolt to, and must have a 90 degree bend right at the wing mount. I think I'll do it off the upper mount though

ill check my optima tomorrow... cant remember that one or my ultima has the wire wing mount... two posts mounted to the top chassis plate, wire goes into post straight up then bent back at about 90 degree and under wing.

Is that not referring to a standard Optima or Turbo Optima though where there was an option to have RC10-like vertical tubes which the wing wire slotted into by the rear shock tower? I sold a Turbo Optima (non-mid) with such a mount a couple of months ago.

Pic below - you can see the tubes in front of the rear tower.

I can't think where such tubes would be mounted on a mid?

Dan

by the way: those wheels are not JG. They look like Tamiya kingcab's.
The JG wheels don't have 12mm hexes.

Yes your right. Both of mine I referenced are "Turbo" not the "Mid."

Thanks for posting that pic
Is that alloy steering bellcranks I see on there?
I will use the Parma Wing mounts I have the same way on the rear shock tower
I just need to sort out some wing wire and the parts to mount the wing to the wire, I'd like to use Kyosho parts for the Ulima if possible if anyone has those bits they want to sell

we used to do this mod to the shumacher cat instead of that nightmare arial, wing mount shock tower brace thing the XL,XLS and procat & cougar had.
