Default Pit Box

Does anyone make/build their own pitbox anymore? I notice from the pictures I see that it is all bought named boxes and the like. Has building your own gone out of fashion? Bearing in mind it has been 20+ years since I was racing. Back then practically everybody build and made their own boxes.

About 20 years ago I bought a 2nd hand custom made wooden pit box (may still be in my parents loft)

I thought it was amazing, my dad however thought it was too heavy and bulky.

I think it's simply down to as no one produced them, therefore people made their own.

It looks like given the number of products on the market now that gap has been well and truly filled.

I have however seen a number of custom charger cases which incorporate power supply, chargers etc in a flight case, some executed better than others.

I remember some of them were works of art. One in particular was outstanding with car battery plugs at the bottom and terminals on the top for the chargers. Current and voltage meters wired into the circuits. Cracking paintwork on it too. All the drawers were made to exact sizes and everything he needed was in the box.

Must admit, I am tempted to make one myself now.

When I returned to buggies 2 years ago, I was also sad to see the loss of home made pit boxes. I remember making mine as a 11-12 yr old in early 80s and it taught me much of my woodwork "skills".
Also fancy making my own, but can see that the new haulers are more practice, lighter and bigger...

Default Pit box

Found this up in my loft last week. Full of my old trophies from the late 80's early 90's.

Who had one😊.
