Default Brass battery tray

Quick question, does this act as a spacer/weight-gaining do-da in the Macnum? Cheers. The reason I ask is that I've just put a Overlander lipo in it and the battery retainer no longer holds the battery secure, so I assumed the brass thing is to add height to the battery. Or do I just put something between the battery and retainer?

It will raise the battery, although you could use foam or something similar to do that. The main reason to use it is to add some weight, LiPOs are lighter then the older NiMh (or even NiCad) packs from back in the day, so under some circumstances it can be good to add some weight in to balance up the car.
