New DEX210 battery thumb screw replacements

Hi,

Just about the only thing I don't like on my DEX210 is the nasty sharp battery thumb screws

I can see them scratching the body (as they are VERY close) and hurting my fingers when doing up. Also, I don't think they are going to be easy to fiddle with when getting to the grid in a rush. (I don't like the Associated ones either, although they are smoother.)

After half an hour on the lathe and piller drill, this was my solution. Quick and easy and adds no extra weight. If you don't have the above tools, at least I may have given somebody an idea. Maybe you know of something you could butcher ?

I added a small piece of soft Velco to the underside of the battery strap so it has a little 'give' when pushing down for the R clip.

yeah very neat , will the clip catch on the body tho? as the body does have a bulge for the thunb screws that is just right for the thumb screw,

The clips are way off the body, that was half the point of making them. The thumb screws are VERY close to the body and will touch if not screwed down tight. I am using 25mm tall cells though, so with a lower cell will be less of a problem.

Before I did this I fitted the shell without paint, this is how I know the shell will touch with the thumb screws on my cells.

These clips are at least 6mm lower than the shell.

I like these. If you loose the thumbs screws it's not easy to find a replacement when you are in a rush for a race but a replacement clip will be easy.

If you decide to make a few to sell I would take a pair.

Thanks for the offer of buying some from me. Unfortunatly they take to much time to make to be worth doing for others

However, feel free to ask Durango to make them as an option

I've also had a good chat with Durango UK today about thin type front wheels. I like to use the middle and outer rims, but the standard 210 wheel has a large middle rim that does not sit the tyre well. I think they were happy to take a look at a propper thinner wheel for the EU and UK market. I think the wheel width as standard is more for the larger US market where they run wider tyres ??

I found that mini pins, staggers and spikes are a little to streched when on the outer rims as the tyre dips in the middle. I've cut the inner rim off and had to pull the tyre outwards on the inside and run a drip of glue on the outside of the tyre . I like to lift the tyre and glue, not easy on the standard 210 rims.

Might be worth look at those screws the b4 had. Enabled you to stick a body pin through, just be imperial though .

The small gold cone spacers from the 410 kit sit real nice inside the holes in the battery bar, the small end nuzzles down into the holes centralising the bar.

The kit M3 nuts hold them down real secure.

Nice I'm pretty sure battery posts from many cars (I was thinking Tamiya TA05 and some other tourers that use battery posts with either a thread inside it or a thread fixed onto it) will work fine as well if you don't have the tools, yet want something that compliments the nice finish of the car

I don't like fiddling with thumb screws and clips who always seems to have an enormous gravity to the floor

I will make a battery strap in CF and use the AE wing nuts. Done it for a friends Losi 22 before.
A quarter of turn, and the battery is out, and you never loose them

guy on ebay has some thumbscrews for computers case, just messages him for sizes, they look quite small.

The Losi 22 rear body mounts would be perfect.
If you remove the thread for the thumb screw they would just screw in
