Default Opinions for good Motor and esc for a Dji550 please.

As per previous post, im the proud owner of a dji 550 frame with fc and errr nothing else lol. AS it was the frame only rather than the artf. What would you guys recommend for motors, props and esc's for this setup.

Thanks in advance.

Col.

Hi fella.

I'm building a 550 too - but it's taking time as it costs too much !

I've got the Sunnysky motors on mine - 2122 980KV I think. From bang good.com.

Motors are superb, lovely and smooth - highly recommended.
Also - putting a Tarot Gimbal on mine with Aeroxcraft landing gear.
DJI Naza lite on this one too - for safety when funds permit!

Andy.

Just out of curiosity how do you know what rating you need for the motors .

Iv read good things about the sunnyskys on here and don't mind ordering overseas and take my time as just like yours its going to cost a bit to spec up.

Thanks

Col.

I run my f550 with the std dji motors with graupner 9x5 props.
If I were to upgrade the motors I would prob go for either the 800 KV or 900 KV motors with 10" props, this would achieve a little more efficiency and longer flight time.
Sunnysky motors are nice, I have the 900 kv's on my discovery.
Quadcopters.co.uk sell the torxpower motors, not a bad price too, ideal if you want peace of mind if any problems arise.

I've just ordered the sunnysky 2216-11 900kv motors from banggood yesterday for my TBS discovery.
http://www.banggood.com/Sunnysky-V22...l-p-78177.html
Just had the mail to say they have shipped, so got the long wait now...

I'm running with graupner eprop 10x5 props on 3S at the moment, no plans to change, but I do find the props a little brittle. The slightest touch of anything kills a prop. I think 9x5 would be a better size on the TBS discovery, as I just get the tips in the gopro picture with 10x5s.

I'm replacing my DJI 2212/900kv motors, which i'll move onto the 330 sized fun/trick quad I've decided to build.

Right then after careful consideration I bought the torxpower 2216 900. These will be powered by the std opto 30a esc's as general advice is that these are great.

I collected these from quadcopters yesterday but the only thing I was unsure on was the best prop. I managed to speak to the workshop guys ( there hard to get hold of on the phone ). After I had purchased thr 8045 props ( cheap plastic ones for the time being ) , I was told these are good all rounder for the motor and frame and should I needmore lift I can get 9" when I have thr gimbal and cam fitted. This will be a while off yet.
What props would you guys go forand why. I purchased the 8" simply off a recommendation.

Lastly would you guys go for 3s or 4s and why. I was told a ggod lipo would be a 5000 4s.

Thanks once again.

The dji 8045 and 1045 props are awful. The dji 1038 props however are good, well balanced, durable and don't break up mid flight.

I use graupner eprops 10x5 on 3S, which will work for you, but I believe 9x5 is more suited to 4S, but will work on 3S. 8x5 is 4S only. The graupners are excellent, but expensive, and shatter on contact with anything, like ground, walls or goal posts. Recommended for a beginner?

Andys had some great looking rctimer carbon props, I'll let him say how they fly.

There no dji props but a brand like gem or something. £3 a pair from memory. They look like hobbyking quality flexi plastic. I kind of rushed buying them as I couldnt get advice on what I needed as I was collecting from owners house lol.

Ill post the link up later when im not on my phone.

As per Neals info - my understanding is 10inch props on 3s and 8 or 9's on 4s.

Rc timer props fly bloody lovely. They needed a bit of sanding - but my 450 is super stable with them. Also price is good as is free shipping

On my 450 - with 2216 motors its a rocket - I've never tried it on 4s - I suspect it would be far too quick for me. I'm sticking to 3s.

Ive tried Graupner 9x5 & Dji 10x38s on my 450 with 3s. Both very stable, if anything the Djis seem a little more forgiving, not quite as sharp. The djis have short round section in their centre before the flats. Cut a 2mm slice of 8mm od, 5mm id nylon pipe to adapt for a 5mm motor shaft.

Im struggling to upload pictures to Opple, any ideas why?

As far as im aware that feature on oople doesnt work. Id open a photo bucket account and use them for piccies.
They even show the shortcut links ie (img) xxxxxx (img) so you can copy and paste the web address direct.

Thanks

It does, but iphone's won't do it (cos they're crap) and the oOple server is crap too.
TBH photobucket is alot easier, better to view and quicker anyway.

This is photobucket:

My Sunnysky 2216-11 900kv motors have arrived today \o/
They look fantastic, and yes Col, the do come with long 35cm leads, with no soldered connectors.

Prop shafts are 5mm, so to mount my 8mm hole graupners I need some spacers.
What did you use Andy?

Neal - I use the spacers that come with the plastic props. With the RC timer props - they come with nice metal spacers too

The hobbyking plastic ones? I've got some 8" on order for my 330.
