Default The RHR unofficial flying club

Reading Mikes post gave me an idea...

Lets all get together and crash into each other!

How does RHR next wed (24th July) sound?

If I can juggle work, I will. Got a funeral the day after, so not much free time next week.

Was a pretty cool inaugural meet of the RHR unofficial flying club!
Mike (northernmonkey) - DJI 550 HAL - impressive altitude!
James - DJI 550 HAL - extremely impressive FPV and gimbal
Bloke (?) Blade 130 CP - CP skills better than mine
Me - SK450 kk2 - pretty fast and agile.

My 808 was playing up a bit, and kept shutting down mid video, so my footage is limited but I think Mike may have got some good stuff.
I'll upload what's any good to youtube and post in the vid thread

Gutted I had to leave so soon!

Col, what motors you got on you 450? Thinking I may build a similar rig to practice rolls etc...

They're these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=12921
Nothing special about them, TBH, but they do provide good power.
My sunnysky 980kv arrived today so I'm in the middle of fitting those. As I don't seem to suffer from excessive vibration (due to a bit of flex in the arms?) I'll be interested to see what difference they make - as I said last night changing the esc's from std turnigy ones to the afro's has made it easier to fly, but much less aggressive so I might look into 4cell and 8" props. Or build another more aggressive quad/tri with all my spares!

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the Sunnysky motors. I can't imagine they will be any quicker than the ones you have - hopefully just smoother and generally nicer

SunnySky's are on and a few tests have been completed.
Smoother than the turnigy's? Yes
Much smoother? No
Different flight characteristics? No, seem very similar
Worth the extra cash? We'll see...

They are definitely quieter, though.

Interesting re the motors - is the flight time the same?

I've ordered a 4s lipo (same capacity as my 3s) to compare flight times - my understanding is that it should fly a little longer on 4s ?

Thread lock everything !!!!

I forgot to do one motor, and it started to come away from the frame - luckily I saw it as it took off and I narrowly avoided a nasty crash.

I've got the bigger Sunnysky's on my 450 now 2216 - 1100KV. Flight time has reduced to around 8 or 9 mins on 3S 2650 lipo, but it shifts carrying the servo gimbal, landing gear and go pro2. I ordered another 2212 - 980 so I have 6 of them in total to go on the 550 when it arrives. The 2212's were ok with the 450 with all the extra load, but I fancied a bit more poke!
