Default Imperial and metric

Hi,

I have an x6, a x6 squared and an x6 Cubed I need to replace some of the old screws under the chasis of the cars and was going to use stainless one's. Most of the screws are still imperial and I would like to change them to metric so does anyone know if the threads are the same pitch or am I going to end up threading half of the holes?

Thanks all.

Don't use stainless steel, they will strip in no time. Use 10.9 steel.

If its going into plastic in it shouldn't be much of a problem but anything metal will work.

I would leave the screws imperial.

Try Dms racing as they do a brand called DDP that do torx head imperial screw and as far as i can remember they used to do a screw kit for the X6 sq in torx head-imperial.

The threads are different. You can stick 2mm screws into the plastics and they fit well. if there going into metal no chance.

If you really wanted you could use a thread cutting bit and re thread the metal parts too, converting all the screws.

The most popular screws sizes in 1/10 buggies such as the X6 you mention are either imperial (unified) 4-40 and metric M3x0.5 (or M3 for short).

The UNC (unified coarse) 4-40 is a #4 (approx 2.8mm) screw with 40 threads per inch.

The Metric M3 is a 3mm screw with a thread every 0.5mm.

Very different screws which really don't mix, but you can usually force a larger M3 into plastic which should be occupied by a 4-40
