This is the ebay Cougar I bought:

Just started the strip down of the E bay Cougar, looks all there really.

I have bought a new bulkhead and will start cleaning/re-building soon. So far I have stripped it and given it a basic clean: Here are some pics:

Here is it so far to date,

I have had chassis Vapour Blasted and got new arms/hubs on the front.

Next up is the gearbox, I am going to build this up using my ali trans housing from other Cougar 1 and go from there!

I will post up some more pics soon on the build.

Been buying some new parts and got a Novak period ESC and a Reedy Sonic Motor I got of ebay going in it, just need to find some 1700 SCRC cells!

a good start there. Are you going to build it as an original cougar or a hybrid?

Yes the Cougar with the Vapour blasted chassis will be Original, I may put Cougar SV ball joints on it and the original white glass fibre tower on it, the rest will be as per kit.

The Cougar in the first set of pics maybe be a bling version with Cat SX shocks, Carbon chassis, who knows.........

Little bit of progress, been busy building my Losi 8e and Durango 410 and 210's.

Tamiya Turnbuckles fitted (had in my spares box), new Schumacher Grey ball cups, Aerial Mount and Works battery retainer fitted.

I'v fitted AE B4 shock bushings as I may run AE shocks if the Schumacher ones dont clean up that well.

Here are the front shocks I have stripped, all seem there to me.

In this pic I have started to rub the shock body down with some wet and dry, should polish up nicely.

I'm thinking of putting the shock body in a pillar drill and using wet and dry and autosol polish to clean them up, unless anyone has any other ideas??

Default Cougar Tufnol main gear and POM axle

Hi,

I found a aftermarket main gear and axle in a Cougar.

The gear seems to be made out of Tufnol and the main axle seems to be made out of POM or Polyamid in a solid piece.

The adaptor for mounting the main gear is fixed to the axle with a long pin.

If anybody is interested just pm me and I can send you pics.
Cheers

Ralf

Bit of an update on my Cougar.

Did the rear end today, cleaned and re-built the diff, flipped the diff plates and lots of fresh ae stealth diff lube and thrust race lube, all nice and smooth again!

New main gear too and the odd bearing that was worn out has been replaced

Gave it all a polish and new Scumacher screws on the gearbox, I'm using M3 C/S under the chassis to install gearbox, front end etc.

Pics:

Next up are the rear hubs, shocks and radio install.

I have a new prototype Cougar 1 shell from Penguin Rc bodies on eBay, I'll post some pics up when I get some paint on it.

Now what scheme to choose???? Any ideas welcome!

I have made some good progress over the past few weeks.

Managed to score a PK tuning front tower and Cougar 2 front and rear towers from Ebay so these will be going on the next car.

I have re done the Cougar 1 shocks, these were in a bit of a state but put them in the pilar drill and wet and dry and polished them up, they came up ok, fresh oil and seals and a good clean and these were bolted on.

Novak Rx fitted and my ebay Reedy Sonic motor too.

So here she is:

The wheels came with my ebay car, loving the retro pink!

Close up of the shocks:

Servo saver and cells in place:

Next up is to paint the shell, this came from Penguin rc shells from ebay uk. This is the Cougar 1 shell but I will get a Cougar 2 one for the next car. Steve has loads of great shells. Go check ebay Uk out for more info.

Also going for a period speedo too, Novak 610, its working fine and just trying to re-wire it and fit.

I'm going to see of these cells charge up but would love to find some working 1700 SCRC's but that maybe a bit tricky! lol

Cheers Moozo

Thanks for all the info! Didn't realise the wheels were made by Trinity.

As for the bulkhead it came on the car so restored the car as I got it.

Correct me if I'm wrong the rest is Cougar 1?

So a rear bulkhead will get it original?

WoW! I'm impressed by your skills in polishing and cleaning. If I saw this live I would have thought it was never run

Thanks for sharing!

hi ive just been given a cougar1 i think as its got red shocks and white grp shock towers and has all the original matching futaba radio gear in it, dont think it was ever raced propely but just used as toy as still got the old mechanical blade type speed control in it,my aim is to restore to original and as far as i can see the only broken bit is the front hinge pin brace which apparently schumacher still have so been ordered, the only other thing missing is the body and wing but not completely sure what it is meant to look like, will try and post some pics when i start it and might be back for some advice
