Default 2014 Tamiya Weekend at Mendip RC Raceway in Weston Super Mare

Hello Everyone,

I am the club secretary at Mendip RC Raceway in Weston Super Mare and we are planning a Tamiya Club based weekend in 2014. Dates are being finalised.

We have both an on road and off road track with full timing facilities, sit down cafe, toilet block, covered pits with electric, on site camping and plenty of car parking.

We plan to have on road classes for Touring cars, Minis, F1s and anything else on road.

For off road racing classes for SRBs, Wild Willys, FAVs/Wild Ones, and any other Tamiya off road 4wd & 2wd cars.

All classes depend on the number of entries.

On the Saturday night we will have a BBQ and night racing.

As Weston Super Mare is a popular holiday destination there is no lack of B&Bs and hotels if camping is not for you as well as pubs, clubs and bars to make a weekend of it for all the family. We will also do souvenir merchandise for the event.

We will also encourage a swap meet. There is already a good deal of interest on Tamiya forums.

We are currently sorting out our diary and I will be back to publish some dates by the new year. Let me know if you would prefer a Saturday/Sunday meet or a Sunday/Bank Holiday meet if possible.

After much discussion we are proposing using Tamiya silver (standard) or Black (sport tuned) 540 brushed motors for the event for four reasons. Most tamiya collectors already have them, they are cheap, they will keep the speeds pretty level making the racing close & competitive and the lower speeds will help protect peoples prized cars from too much damaged.
Below are links to our web site with videos of both tracks.

Let me know any feedback.
Paul

I am up for some hotter motors as i have been using 14D in mt Top Force Evo for 2 years and so far has been problem free. I am close to finishing my Astute modded to ex Factory spec's. I was running a 19 single in this car before hand problem free. Both with moden nimh cells.

I would say run wot ever you have for first meeting then all get together and come up with a standerd wind motor as I have run my Avante black up there with its kit motor and it's ok in the twisty bits but so dull on the straight . But it's not my call

Sound good to me, ill be happy to go with the flow. But let go hotter than silver can. The Tamiya bz/tz motors (for example) work well even with the standard tamiya esc's and are around £35 on fleebay etc. i have one in my FAV which is fun with that motor

Guys before you all get carried away with how fast your car will be or not, this is a work in progress and the final set of rules are still to be finalised. But.....this weekend will have a lot of people who have not raced on a track before, people who have invested alot of time and money into their cherished vintage cars and a lot of youngsters racing for the first time, the emphasis is on fun and everyone leaving with a smile on their faces and not being fed up and not wanting to come back because they have an expensive repair bill after the weekend!

We plan to make it a level playing field and in turn the best drivers will rise to the top.

The Tamiya Euro Cup ran very succesfully for years running standard tamiya motors

When everything has been agreed with Tamiya and finallised we will update the information.

FYI: The on road track will be shortened for this meeting so the long straight will not be a factor.

Would a 2011 Blitzer Beetle/Stadium be usable in a class?

Oh and as far as Dates go, I'm easy.. bank holidays don't make a difference for me as I'd probably be flying in from Malta.

K

the event video has nothing to do with this proposed event.

the DT02 challenge was organised by me and it was at the SHRCCC track in Hampshire.

I know it's not of this proposed event .. I posted that vid to show how cool the last event of this 'type' was. The SHRCCC event looked so much fun!

I hope there are more this year. I'll try and get to all of them. I love the DT-02 chassis. If I can get the extra luggage space on Ryan air I'll even bring a Wild Willy

I was wondering that too as I have a black can motor for my Astute and TopForce ready to go.

UPDATE.

We really want this to go on and are desperately trying to sort a date considering out hectic schedule on both the on road and off road track.

Check back on Monday evening when we will make an announcement either way.

Thank you for your patience.
