I am glad there is no trf 202 and no trf 201 xr kit, my xr upgrade kit still did not arrive.
It would have been too expensive to get a new kit weeks after the old arrived.

Let's see what the upgrades on the normal conversions are...

New axles would be nice.

This one makes me curious for a couple of reasons:

1. Does it still have an (Aluminium) machined gearbox?
2. Does it have proper sidepods this time or not?

It's good to see Tamiya are finally anouncing actual kits instead of conversions, but for the 201 I really do hope they have made a few new injection moulded parts to make the car look more finished. But going by the 503 release we can probably expect one new thing we didn't have before: CVDs with clips

My guess it will be along the lines of the worlds car. Based on the vega gen3, As the worlds 201 xm had the geometry as the vega gen3. Let hope Tamiya dont include all the associated parts that were fitted to the worlds xm and stick with Tamiya parts or at least update.

Hey Guys

Go to Tamiya USA:

http://www.tamiyausa.com/items/radio...ssis-kit-42277

Under Specifications it says:

Differential type : sealed oil-filled gear

At least for carpet this is good news.

Special feature 1 : The aluminum chassis deck features new dimensions to seize the potential of the new gear case.
Special feature 2 : The gear case allows for a new drive shaft attachment angle. The aluminum motor plate and suspension mount, plus the center post, have been redesigned to work optimally in the new setup.
Special feature 3 : A new carbon rear damper stay facilitates more efficient upper arm attachment positions.
Special feature 4 : The TRF201 chassis features 4-wheel double wishbone suspension and aeration oil dampers for smooth and effective damping.
Special feature 5 : The kit is compatible with the included ball differential, and also gear differentials.
Special feature 6 : Includes a Pro-Line Phantom body.

Cheers
Gerrit

Interesting. Too late for me, I already have the XM. Even though the new kit will be the better performer, one just can't keep buying TRF cars...or can they?

Finally a Gear Diff!

Looks like it will be a TRF201XM v.2 (or WE)
I Read that Lee Martin was thinking Tamiya should of waiting a little longer to finished the Development of the XR/XM kit before releasing it.
But looks to be an expensive April coming up!!

Thou what to do with the 502 and old 201XM as they dont sell second hand very well.

Why is everyone so enthusiastic about a gear diff? Sure it is nice, and I know I never got my TRF201 ball diff to run that smooth, but a gear diff quite limits the diversity of surfaces this car can perform on at it's peak?

Anyway, D-Style, I think the second hand price of the XM probably much depends on it's ability to sell. A very limited amount of people are prepared to spend even nearly as much as you did to get that spec, and with an actual (and updated) kit coming soon the second hand value unfortunately becomes an even bigger question mark...

Don't think the gearbox will still be the machined alu one.
If you look at the specs on TamiyaUSA is stated specificaly "The aluminium chassis" and "The aluminium motor plate"
There isn't a notice like that on the gearbox so I think it is going to be a plastic part.

The sidepods were the right ones from the begining, the chassis wasn't.
The sidepods fitted onto the chassis that Lee Martin had and wanted for the kit but as he stated is was probably rushed.

The new kit can take a geardiff and a normal diff so you can just put the one in that suits the track best.

Knowing how much of Lees ideas that went into the updated 201 and 503, it feels kind of strange that these cars are released now.
Calling them Lee Martin Edition would have been very accurate.

But it´s still nice to see new TRF kits.

We'll wait and see what the new kit brings. I've been working on my XM trying to find some rear end grip on slippery surface without reversing the arms. Reversing the arms is not an easy process on the XM, in the end I gave up trying to do it due to the geometry of the rear shocks and upper arms. Not all is lost though, I did manage to find some rear end grip on slippery surface, but is un yet tested on the race track. I'm hoping to get to the track on 17 Feb for a club race to see if the experimentation has paid off? If so I'll post the set up.

As for the new kit, I'll wait for the cost. Further the XM can be converted back to the XR. Rear motor on dusty dirt tracks is still better than mid drive. IMO the the new kit will come with TRF Blue aluminium gear case as it will provide the strength and rigidity required due to the design. and the rear end of the car. I supports the motor mount and rear shock tower.

I'm assuming the actual car hasn't been released yet, just the specs?

I was hoping there would be some pics (rather than just a rendering) as was the case with the new 503 but it looks unlikely :-(

The link above to ken tech blog shows the Tamiya rendering. I could be wrong, as the rear gear box case is coloured the same as other moulded plastic pieces. Wonder if they'll offer blue bling aluminium gear box cases as a hop up for the new kit? if they don't, it'll make the XM conversion for the XR a little special

Wink

Ive been looking at the pictures and I think the longer chassis plate will be the main benefit. I was upset and a bit annoyed with the new XM kit but now I have seen it I'm of the feeling that the conversion kit was worth doing and adding the longer lower plate is the best option and it matches Lee Martins worlds version the closest.

Makes you wonder why he was dropped with the new models out soon, very very strange but very Japanese in its appoch.

The new xm kit has been brought up to the Tamiya Vega spec. The chassis I believe is now the same length as the Gen3 Vega and Geometry is the same. This has been stated before. As you can see the gearbox is further back like Gen3, the wishbones run flipped side and 2mm back like Gen3, new shock tower like Gen3 and the front of the xm you can now fit all electrics at the front like Gen3. I run the Gen3 and owned xm and xr so know differences between the kits and lets not forget the car that gave Lee Martin his BRCA National title the Vega so no surprise really that the 201 xm has been influenced at little really.

But with Tamiyas known quality and bling this should be as good as the Vega.

Only my opinion. Oh and yes I will be buying 1 or 2
