Default Round 2 Broxtowe Race Report and Results

The second round of the oOple Off Road Open Series would take us back to Broxtowe in Nottinghamshire.

The track is considered a real drivers track and is technical with some rather big jumps. The layout this year would also feature the mountain in the middle which you had to climb up and turn on the top keeping as near as you dared to the track marking without getting caught on it. Sounds simple but the off camber nature of the turns on the mountain caught many out and one mistake ruined a good run!

I would love to say that Saturday dawned bright and breezy but it didnt, it was raining, just enough to make the track as slippy as a slippy thing on ice. The hardest part was getting traction or drive onto the straight which was a case of not daring touching the throttle until you were half way down the straight. (your writer decided 10.5T Blinky was the way forward and one driver was using an old Skool Brushed 13 turn double motor to kill the acceleration!)

The tyre choice between Schumacher Silver Darts and Proline Z4's was definetly in Schumachers favour on the Saturday but as Sunday dried up, a number of drivers in the A Finals swapped to Prolines.

PBM Models and Mad Models brought their shops and 76 drivers were in attendance.

In 2WD it would be Schumacher Team Driver Stu Wood making the trip from Bury to claim Pole Position on the A Final, local hero Eugene Galley lined up second with Jack Neal in third, all driving Schumacher cars. A good selection of manufacturers made it into the A final with Xray, PR, Associated and TLR joining the rampant Schumachers.

The A final was held over three legs (as was every final at an oople meeting) and it was Stu Wood in Leg 1 with a lights to flag win, Eugene had a mare down in 10th leaving Mark Smith, Xray and Jack Neal, Schumacher in 2nd and 3rd. In Leg 2 it was a showdown between Stu, Eugene, Jack and Mark. Jack made a mistake and fell back and the lead swapped between Stu and Eugene all race with Eugene coming out victorious leaving it wide open for Leg 3.
Another epic battle in Leg 3 with the same drivers and this time it was Eugene who would hold on, with Stu Wood putting some mega fast laps in the closing stages to finish just behind, Jack Neal ended up third.

Overall A Final Results:

1st - Eugene Galley
2nd - Stu Wood
3rd - Mark Smith

The other 2WD Final Winners were:

B Final - Laura Hicklin - Schumacher
C Final - Mark Thornewill -Xray?
D Final - Ben Simpson - Yokomo
E Final - William Hodgkinson - PR

In 4WD Jack Neal driving the new Schumacher L1 was unstoppable, putting the car on pole in the A Final and taking all three Leg wins to make it a clean sweep!
Mark Smith with his Xray XB4 would take second on the grid and second overall and Greg Williams also driving the new L1 qualified third and cam home third overall.

Therefore in the A final 4WD:
1st - Jack Neal
2nd - Mark Smith
3rd - Greg Williams

The other 4WD winners were:

B Final - Neil Burdess - Associated
C Final - Chris Hinks - Tekno

The truck class was "Battled" out again between Damian Whittle, Neil Burdess and two returning drivers Tristan Morgan and Jim Dixon. We had the usual obstacls to avoid, the track markings and Jessica James and Oliver Kirkham who take driving lines nobody else can see! LOL!!
It would be Neil Burdess who took pole position in the Short Course, with Damian, Danny James and Jim Dixon lining up behind.
Damian took the win in Leg 1 but it would be Leg 2 that was the most exciting. Damian, Neil, Tristan and Jim all taking the lead at one point only to fall over or crash off leaving another driver to pick up the pieces. Over the last few laps it was Neil leading Damian with the lead changing nearly every corner, Damian slid up the inside, Neil tried to jump over him on the big table top but came to grief leaving Damian to take Leg 2 and overall win.

So, in the trucks its was:

1st Damian Whittle - TLR SCTE 3.0
2nd Jim Dixon - Durango
3rd Neil Burdess - TLR SCTE 3.0

The race results also crowned Oliver Kirkham as winner of 2WD Stadium trucks! Well done!!!????!!!!

Well done to all the drivers!

Thanks to our sponsors, Schumacher, CML/Proline, Inside Line Racing, Mad Models, Dremel, RPRC/Tekno.

Cheers to the oOple Team for putting another great event on.
