cobra evo
Hi miggers
Thanks for that ,I was going to do that but everytime I went to buy one on ebay they wouldnt deliver international or just too expensive, so I have been waiting patiently for chris to sort out the new one. Does anyone know of any second hand Cobras? Also I emailed Chris he said he was still having problems getting the Evo sorted so it could be later this year. If I can get a cheap cobra I would try the madrats gearbox!!!

If you get a early cobra, the gearbox is much stronger than the later ones and would probably be ok if the motor wasn't too hot and the gearbox was built properly. Madrat gearboxes are ok but will benefit from upgraded diff parts and idler gear if you intend to race it. I fitted the b4 diff because it was easy to do and can handle the power without issue. I currently use other cars but my cobra was completely reliable with a b4 diff. I also use tamiya driveshafts that are cheap and again totally reliable. Mine has just had some losi shocks fitted and will be used again soon.

New to the forum. Just got a bunch of Cobra bits off ebay and hope to assemble them into a complete car. Anyone know of a good place to get spares? Seem pretty rare on ebay.
Also, what happened to the re-released Cobra? Mardave site shows no stock.

Mardave do keep spares,but you have to phone up for them.
I've got an exploded view of the Cobra with all the part numbers on it. Send me a pm if you(or anyone else)want a copy so that you can order bits because there's nowt on the new Mardave site. Summer 2012 has come and nearly gone and there's no sign of the touted "Cobra Evo",so no,we know eff-all about it. Ooh,BTW,I've also got a drawing for an upper deck that I'll also share with the "Cobra cognecentti" if anyone is interested.

AFAIK Mardave only make one gear. I tried an 84T gear out of my Traxxas TRX-3 and it fits! Don't know if this is a useful tip for someone or not... I think the modern Traxxas cars (Bandit etc) use the same spur gear. Edit: Just phoned Mardave. Got no answer, but Chris obviously saw the missed call and called me right back. He says he will be listing over 200 Cobra parts on the website next week!

Still no sign of the "200+" Cobra spares on the Mardave site or the touted
Cobra Evo  Load of ballox if you ask me. Far too busy messing with toy cars to bother about the No1 scene,that's their problem.

I thought I'd post up some pics of my latest Cobra build for the vintage buggy class to be run at ARC raceway.
The rules are simple any pre 2000 buggy using a tamiya sport tuned 540 brushed motor. So I got the three Cobras I had in the loft and stripped them completely and started rebuilding one good one. So far I have :- Replaced all ball studs with Ansmann studs Used Mad Monkey trackrod ends with TM2 turnbuckles Fibrelyte carbon shock towers have been added with the front spaced back 2mm to help mount the front shocks forward. The steering posts have been moved back 6mm to get better ackerman angles. The diff is fairly stock with a new diff gear and Ansmann thrust balls as I'm hoping the stock motor will be ok with regular diff maintenance. New slipper and idler gear. Battery tray shaved to accept a stick lipo. Mad Monkey rear wing mounts fitted.      Still to do :- I have to install electrics Fit Schumacher big Bore shocks Mount and spray the body.

How much original car does there have to be to qualify for the ARC series, not that I can get anywhere near Colchester in a month of Sundays.

when I spoke to the guys the other day they said that the motor and year where the only rules it seems. I think its just about being a fun class to compete in.

As spares are a mjor concern for most vintage drivers I thought you might like this tip:
To prevent the the front bulkheads from getting torn where the hige pins got through: mount a bit longer hinge pins and cut a carbon or G10 brace to sit over the hinges in front of the bulkhead halves. I've destroyed several ultima bulkheads untill I started doing this and from then on: none = over 10 years and still racing them
