Battery placement on the mk1 is further forwards and suits high grip tracks, shock towets are slightly different, mk2 has batts further back with longer top deck, hyper clutch and a percentage had evolution shocks before the ZXRR came out.

There's not much difference between them at all, but there are quite a few small changes.
The biggest change is the battery slots are moved back, which means a different chassis. To fit the batteries in the chassis means moving the rear upper deck stay in front of the motor back. To fit this means a longer top deck and new motor mount and bridge over motor (LA-62). The rear upper deck stay is modified otherwise it would hit the motor so Kyosho moulded it with a curved cutout to clear the motor. Other changes were to the suspension geometry. The front end has a new shock mount, new wide track C hubs with a second pivot hole to move the hub out and matching longer front driveshafts. New upper kingpins to locate the upper link through the kingpin. The rear end has a new shock mount, much like the Mk.1 but with an extra set of holes for the shocks. The rear uprights have added extensions to raise the upper link mounting. Finally the same slipper is used, just the wave washers in the Mk1 are replaced by a normal spring on the Mk2.

You can find the manual here
http://www.retromodelisme.com/manuel...-r-kyosho.html It is the ZX-R Mk1 manual, with the supplement instructions for the Mk2 included at the end, with part numbers.
