Default swapping from sticks to trigger/wheel TX...mad?

Hi all

I've used sticks all my life, but have two problems.

1 I have shaky hands...always have had!
2 I suck at fast brake to throttle movements

The 2nd is actually the bigger issue for me; we race buggies indoors on carpet and the really quick guys are using the brakes in the infield a lot more than I'm capable of.

I've watched a lot of drivers on the rostrum and it always seems the trigger set is better for rapid acceleration/brake movement; I've tried with sticks, I'm fine with a big brake zone like at end of straight, but rapid accel/brake in midfield I don't find so easy.

In terms of ability, as a kid (raced about 8 years age 13-21) I used to win club A finals loads, be regional B finals. I'm now 39 (jesus that went fast) and mid - rear of club A, regional C finals. So I'm reasonable, and happy that with practice I'd be better.

I work away a lot so race sporadically, but do have time to practice, albeit more likely cones on cricket field than permanent track.

So my question is who's ever tried to go from sticks to trigger/wheel?

Did you manage it?

Finally, I've got a Sanwa Gemini X at the minute, receiver is the 451...Which Sanwa trigger TX's is the 451 compatible with? I think MT4 is possible?

If so then I think I'll buy a TX only and just re bind/sort speedo end points and get practicing! If I suck at least I can go back to sticks anytime, sell whichever doesn't work out.

Final thought, can you bind two TX's with one RX? I know it's possible the other way round...

Had a similar conversation at Stotfold the other day and Pete went sticks to wheel a while ago after using sticks for a long time.

He loves it and hasn't looked back, mt4 Will work fine it's what I use.
Hobbyking is cheapest place for them, or get the mt4s and a sanwa esc and have all the telemetry etc.

Default Stiks

My bro made the change, took him a few meetings to get used to it but is much happier now and is getting faster and faster... He raced sticks in the 90's and started again last year on sticks but quickly found the wheel radio easier. Worth a try I think, but may take a short while to get up to speed on it.

I went from sticks to wheel when I was 25.

It instantly felt like a more natural process too me

I used sticks in the late 80's and early 90's , after a 22year gap come back racing with my kids . I started with sticks but changed to wheel about 8 months ago for a couple of reasons , I wanted to have the same as my kids as if they had problems they could use mine and secondly my right thumb doesn't move like it used to .
It's taken me a while to adjust but getting better with it now , and like you say I find it easier to use brake . Think the tx you use makes a huge difference, I also tried a futaba 4grs of a friends and found sticks really comfortable again . But I've decided to keep on with the wheel mainly for back up for my kids , I think I found tight left hand turns the hardest . If you do swap over it is best to allow time to adjust , and allow your results to drop a bit .

For 25 years I used sticks. I recently (just before xmas) went to steerwheel. Raced probably a dozen times this year but forget I used to use sticks (except when I take the helicopter out)
