Default Help please

Hi Guys,
I've been down to Bury and had a play a few years ago but I'm looking at getting back into things again. What I'm after is some advice on what car to go for.
What I'm looking for is a reliable car 2 or 4wd or possibley that traxas slash short course truck thing (i know i'll break stuff so I'd have to be able to get parts easily). I think I want brushless due to ease of maintainance (so I've read) and probably lipo - again because there is far less farting around with charging/discharging and balancing.
So this is my list of what I think I need (could you please fill in any blanks inc what makes to go for)
Car, motor/speed controller, battery packs (how many?), charger, wheels/tyres, spares package. I've already got a tranny, reciever, tools and bits and I've got a budget of £500 for the initial purchase.

I know it's a big ask but any help will be greatfully recieved.

Good to hear you are back into the hobby same as me back after a few years out,things have changed alot and cars as so much faster...
well starting with car i went down the 2wd and now moving to 4wd people say you become a better driver if you start on the 2wd cars harder to control....come back to me in a few weeks and i'll answer that lol..

There are so many cars to chose from but best to do before we all say owt, come down and have a chat see what car you like yourself.

500 gets you some good kit.....but if your starting out i'd go for>>>>>>
2wd
associaited b4 car is solid/parts are easy to get hold of....
4wd
associaited b44 (239.00) good solid shaft drive 4wd that doesnt need many upgrades
esc i would go for lrp sphere the best on the market (140.00)from hong kong uk price 240.00...cost more but worth the money and less hassle,stay well clear of losi esc trust me!!

battery you want are lipo properly two sets to run 4000/5000Mah 30c is well enough for the 5 minute heats at bury,use a about 1400Mah a race so really 1 pack is enough...but 2 gives you more time to socialise which us lot are good at lol
i bought some intellect 5000Mah 40c two packs hardcase from hong kong for 90.00 you can get from uk suppliers which if they die you can send them back but you will pay 70.00 for just 1 lipo in uk...most run stuff from hk just do google seach..
chargers there are many core 30 does the trick that will set you back 60.00
it all comes down to money good kit will last longer than cheap shit i've learnt that!!!!
as i say just come down and were a friendly bunch of dudes.....

get anything except an ansmann. 2nd hand good car associated/yokomo/ schumacer .see whats about.

a rc mate give me some good advice once

buy shit. buy twice

(after i bougt an ansmann/losi combo/cheap lipos and started racing)

two weeks later i had a bmax with trackpowers....................................... .............couple o months later i changed to exceed combo. never looked back since ( or had to buy twice)

or for 500 quid get an electric 8th scale. they racing em at goshen now. hpi vorza rtr looks good
and short course trucks rule. 4wd. hong nor. or hyper 10sc............ballistic

I don't know - you two and your doing things the hard way.....

The biggest change has been the decent RTR. This one is the most popular 2wd buggy out there, fitted with a reasonable brushless motor and esc, and also includes a nice modern 2.4ghz radio and metal geared servo. 2.4ghz is really worth it even if you have a decent 27/40mhz radio as there are no crystal clashes or interference. Whole lot comes to £220 - you'll need a factory team alloy front brace to beef up the front end on the B4 chassis and thats about it. Fit it with Schumacher Yellow minispikes front and rear for dry days, Green minispikes for the wet and you are go.
Just one of these Lipos is all you'll need - unlike NiMH/NiCd you can top up between runs, and one 5000mAh pack will probably do for 20-30 mins running anyway! Any lipo charger would do, this one is cheap and does the job like all the rest.
So thats £220 for the car, £50 for a battery, £40 for the charger, and £30 for a brace and some new rubber. - £340 all in! Leaves you a lot of money for other stuff later.......

That is alot of kit for the money, good advice. One other thing to be aware of if you wish to compete in regional or national sanctioned meetings then the motor and Lipo that you choose need to be on the BRCA approved list. Losi and Speed Passion motors are to my knowledge are the cheapest motors on the list at around 50 quid and as quick as anything else. I would agree on the comment regarding Losi speedos though. A second hand LRP sphere is a good choice, and people are always selling them on here, often for not much reason other than money burning a hole in their pockets and changing for changings sake! They are sensored as are 95% of sanctioned motors, so worth getting a sensored speedo/motor. The lipos can be had cheaper from HK but again worth checking the list. I would personally suggest 2 Lipos if you can as it just gives a little extra breathing space at a club meet where there is sometimes little time between heats.

Definitely B4 or B44 I'd agree, and I've never owned one. Lots of people are changing to the new Schumacher 2wd so again used B4 bargains to be had. If you want proof that the B4 is still competitive watch Neil Cragg.

There is a b44 with full eletrics all used once I think it will be on page 6 now batteries esc 2.4 sticks all it needs is a lipo charger he wants£400 offerhim 350 then wait and see.

si-coe is on the right idea on what to buy,but if your driving skills are ok you may need a faster motor which will no doubt mean a new speedo, do not get a losi i made a big mistake with buying that,i now have an lrp tc perfect,i have a b4 and a b44,i would recomend them, cheap and easy to get parts,easy to run and set up.

Well the motor isn't really, in that its not been submitted for approval, but if it had been it would have been approved as there is nothing weird about it. The cells are fully BRCA legal.
But TBH its not an issue unless you are planning on running nationals - I've just been at the NW regionals and saw several people running stuff that is certainly not on the approved list (Hobbywing motors, Dark Power cells etc) and nobody really minds. They aren't approved only because they weren't submitted - they aren't illegal or dangerous!

He attended weather or not he actually finished is another story. another reason not to listen to any advice on equipment from the barfoon buy cheap buy twice!!!

Finished every single round and the final thanks. Still rebuilt my car twice during the day, but just because I felt like it, it wasn't needed !

Buy Cheap Buy Twice? Was that printed on your cheap Losi then? Cos you sure paid for that twice - once for the shed, sorry I mean car, and again for all the bits needed to fix it!

Caused much amusement from Rob cos I'd race then he was in the heat after me, so saw me finish - but even so after marshalling he'd return to our pit area to find my XX4 in pieces. I think Robs finally getting that I dismantle them for fun!

And yes - Rob is officially a bit good! He was actually a touch disappointed with pole in the B - he was in the A final until the last round!
