Default Winter Racing with SHRCCC (Updated)

Well, summer is well underway and what a few months it's been, from idea to a popular club within it seems a blink of an eye!.

Regularly getting mid 20's on a Tuesday night and Sunday's, it's been a real pleasure to meet some great people and watch some awesome racing, thanks for all your support

So, Winter will be with us in a few months and we'll need to kiss goodbye to Tuesday outdoor racing ... or will we?

I have a few options for you all to consider:

1: Fitting stadium style lighting and continue to race outdoors under lights on grass. However, Winter wont be great for grass.
2: Maybe we should go Astro full track and forget grass?
3: Dont race under lights find a large indoor venue locally?
4: Shut down for Winter and keep the Club summer time only as there are other indoor clubs that run winter (Silverstone, RC & Taplow)?

So, let's have a discussion about where we go and what we do

Not big enough, main room is only 11m x 25m which is too small for Off Road 1/10th. Already thought that. I guess it would do if a case of nowhere else, they've said I can have it. They do have storage space for jumps, ramps and carpet etc.

Not sure what the answer is but I do know I'd like to keep racing over the winter. Also another circuit such as silverstone etc is nit really an option I'd concider. So, keep it local and I guess to do that astro is the way to go. Is there any chance of utilising a bit more of the waste ground at the far end to give a bit more space?

If you do go astro I know a man that can :-)

Yes, we can go into the corner as much as we like.

I would favour indoors.
A consistent predictable surface that isn't weather dependent.

Hum... I like the feel of the grass so am a bit loathed to lose it completely... How much effort do you think it would take to clear out that corner section more and set something up there for the astro track that also goes onto the 'normal' track for now? That way we can get astro and grass during the summer and then limit ourselves to 'just' the astro part over winter?

Or I reckon we could still get something interesting for the indoor hall there with the built in drivers rostrum already there...?

We could do the hall, but it's really small. Maybe next week we'll nip in there for a proper look with a car?.

I have my eye on another place for indoors in the winter though.

Sounds interesting...

For the small hall I was thinking of a few banked curves sections etc to try to maximise the space.. Would be small... but it'd only be for winter... But lets see what else you have in mind...

The other option is that RC arena is only down the road for the indoor winter season. Still not tried it there yet, mean to, but just don't have enough spare hours at the moment!

RC is Fridays the same as Taplow. I'd still like to stick to tuesday's tbh.

No idea what Tony is thinking of to be honest Mark. I think we could run in the cadet hall only on Thursday's due to their other commitments.

Got a few places scanned

Sounds good... (for me, hopefully no further 'south' as its already enough of a pain fighting thru' rushhour traffic to get there on time... but I'm just being selfish here!)

Guys, what about a small ON ROAD type track in the Cadet hall?, Ministox or Bangers etc? Might be a bit of a giggle!!

Leave the Sunday indoor meetings to the Bigger indoor clubs, Taplow, Silverstone, Maritime etc?

Just throwing something out there.. How about 18th scale buggies in the cadet hall? Maybe include Tamiya mini's and Mardave's too?

Check out High Wycome as they know how to make best use of a small space.
