Depending on the size of the track, try 23-25t pinion with the standard spur.

Stick a 27 on it and check temps every couple of minutes, easiest way to start with

First few runs I've started with 24pinion and stock spur with a Speed Passion 7.5 V3.

Runs warm not hot, will gear it up and see how it goes.

How longs a piece of string comes to mind

Get yourself a temp gun: http://www.maplin.co.uk/infrared-the...rgeting-223005
Very useful to have in the toolbox for keeping an eye on temps.

This is only normal if you are using some cheap silicone oil!!!

If you can put your finger on it then your motors only warm

Red spring is quite hard for rear. Below red you have gold, white and pink. Pink being the softest. Might want to try white or pink. Also you could go down to 27.5w oil.

All depends where you're running the car too.

The Oil weights are not always very accurate.
Have a look at this.

Kyosho Oil is very accurate if not the cheapest, Losi oil is pretty good.

Do you use the same holes as everybody else?
Rear: inner on arm, 2nd or 3rd on tower. Front: outer on arm, middle on tower.
Check if you don't have any rebound on rear shocks (too much oil)
Lastly, I use the same spring as you but with 27.5 rear and 40 front (Losi oil) and it seems pretty good (never run yet)
