Mini Z`s are cool,i have had quite a few, currently i only have a Lancia Stratos.
Very nice track fella, but the straight isn`t long enough for me
The main problem is batterys,if they did a rechargable one, like a lipo powered one,i`m sure there would be more interest,i know you can use rechargable AAA`s but they don`t give the punch of drycells.
Can`t fault the bodyshells but the internals need to be better IMHO
Keep at it,they are a bit ahead of thier time i think.Super Micro racing is yet to take off in the UK.

Dayumn, those things are fast!
I have an awd lancia delta but I don't think it's quite upto the pace of those things

http://www.youtube.com/user/RisingSunRacing

there are more vids on there

lipo in thas scale way are too much to handle(ive tried),normal rechargable aaa are much more consistant, you must of had some dud nimh's if you think drycell are faster

the internals are made by ko unless you get the cheaper i-series which have crap fets in them.
my personal cars are all 2.4g using the same ics system for throttle curves ect.

we want to limit the cars so it does come down to driver skill and not "factory drivers who get factory parts" with the edge

A big single 3.7v cell lipo would probably do the job a treat,
rechargable cells are 1.2 volts x 4 is 4.8 volts obviously, where as dry cells are 1.5v x 4 = 6Volts = more punch[in my world anyway].I didn`t mean radio gear internals[i wouldn`t slate KO gear] but the built in servo is a bit pants in my experiance. The stock motors leave a lot to be desired[no brushless]
I havn`t seriously looked at Mini z for the last 3-4 years or so,so things will of obviously moved on.
One of the main problems is price,as with all micro stuff,it is usually only a bit more money for something bigger.People still seem to think bigger is better but i say everything has it`s place. The original idea of Mini`z racing is it can be set up in a very small place and the look of the fantastic scale bodys.
Have a look at the normal micro scene and see how hard it has been to promote anything new, those guys put a lot of effort in.The fact is that 1/10 has been most popular the longest, there are loads of different makes not just one, plus any kind of investment at the moment is very carefully thought out and to put a load of dosh into something that might not get the support it deserves is a big risk for most folks[JMHO].
If there was a bigger price difference between Mini z`s and say 1/10 it might get taken up a bit more, but i return to my points about the other micro scales 1/18 and the more rare 1/16,there is no doubting they are ace but if people are already set up for 1/10 then spending more in an uncertain climate is just not on the cards.
It would be nice if people organising any certain type of racing opened thier minds to the idea that people like to be different. If you turned up mob handed at a 1/10 touring car meeting with say 5+ drivers they might put a heat on for you[Ask],if you supported the event with spares and had a couple of second hand cars, maybe a new set up or so for sale or just to look at,you might get some interest.
You wanted some responces to your thread, sorry if mine seemed a little downbeat but belive me i do understand and can only wish you all the best in promoting these loverly little RC`s.
Please please do keep us informed of meetings/events,take pictures/video,get close up,write a report. It one of the toughest jobs to promote anything, keep at it

I would also add that while those pre fabricated tracks are easyer to set up,they do have some awfull corners and hazards, they don`t flow very well and are to small and fiddly for most novice to intermediate drivers.
The old saying "Keep it simple" springs to mind.

wicked reply and some good points
we do have spare cars available at every event but they get looked at as toys
alot of the larger scale racers in the usa use mini z in the off season to improve reaction times,id like to see something similar over here.
im currently trying out 1/8 rallycross for a change, the difference is amazing as im finding the buggies so easy to drive
we have thought of showing up at a 1/10 meeting maybe that will be the next thing to try.

with the cells though its a bit tricky, imagine a normal aaa has 100mah,although 4 of them is 6v they cant supply enough current.
nimh on the other hand can supply the power so give more punch for a longer duration

I know pre fabs have thier limitations, but 90`s and 180`s are a bit boring to me,a bit to slotcar if you know what i mean?[No offence intended to slotcars racers]
Hazards like the top left hand corner on the F1 vid you posted,i call that a "nerg" corner, the one everyone clips at some point, bringing the car to a full stop when just getting on the power.

I like tracks to flow better and this lot round here like lots of groovey jumps,so you wont get much change out of them

We are not going to agree on batterys, but hey who cares,as long as everyones having fun eh?

Mini-z are not designed to work with 6 volt dry cells.
they should only be used with 4.8volt rechargeable.
You could damage your esc using drycell.

The tracks can be changed for any driving style standard etc wide narrow. sweepers or even just an oval.

I dont see any diference to what you can do with the modular track to a bigger 1/10th.

Next year there will be a national mini-z series, maybe even 2 from what has been mentioned.

The cost to race mini-z is much much cheaper than any other class.
You can get a car with radio for about £150.00 just add a few AAA and you are racing.
Tires and motors will last for many hours.
cost to hire a small hall is cheap compared to a bigger venue for 1/10th

1/10th is 10 - 20 times more. IMHO

seems to me everyone should race mini-z.

Hopefully I am sorted but will let you know otherwise.

Also interested in any tweaks etc to the car. I dont really know much about it other than they can be really rapid (once they work)

thanks for the backup neil
just to add, not only are they cheaper than many other scales but your driving skills will improve and reaction times will be quicker by using a smaller scale than you are used to

oh and is this straight long enough for you?
im just sorting through my bits now for the motor pod clip...

for an mr01 alot of the stuff that was available(gpm ect) was not that good,
a top shock and the kyosho H plates are a must.
polish the front kingpins
make sure you use rounded sidewall tyres on the front (atomic ar-231 £1.99 per set)to prevent grip roll as the front of the mr01 is a little narrower than the mr02

get the fets on the main board changed to the later mr02 ones, they will give you bit more power(less resistance) and wont blow as easy(i stack tham as high as 3x2 on most of our club cars)

What miniZ's do they race then? I got mine for a laugh but like I said it's not really anything like the video shown above, if it turned that quickly it'd just tip over I think. I have drift tyres and a one way in mine for a laugh.
