H2 Steering - what have I done wrong?

Hi

I've just bought myself an H2 and getting back into racing after a long time away.

I'm having some trouble with my steeriing and looking for some help.

With the servo horn on vertically and everything symetrical left and right, I am finding that I have more steering to the right than to the left. How do I solve this?

Is it a matter of adjusting the servo horn to equal out the steering, or have I made an error in contruction?

If everything on the car looks correct then personnally i`d remove your servo horn from the servo. Then power up your radio gear and check the servo is central. Then with it still powered on, refit the horn so the wheels are straight. As then your steering should be central.

I had this with mine. The servo horn on mine was slightly to one side. Swapped it one splie over and it was worse the other way. In the end I put it back and adjusted the link between the servo horn and steering rack (pro version is adjustable).
Now with my transmitter settings it is now within a couple of % lock to lock and goes fully each way.

I think someone mentioned getting the Losi 22 screws.

I use losi 22 lug nuts. There just over £2 a pair. Haven't had a problem since.

End Point Adjustment (EPA) on your radio is how you fix this. And it's the only way to do it properly.

If the servo centres and your throw is different left to right (and your turnbuckles are equal) then the only fix is EPA.

I've just spent hours playing about with different combinations with no real difference.
My radio gear is on the cheap and cheerful side and doesn't have an EPA. Something for me to keep an eye out for when I upgrade.

I've just ordered some of the Losi nuts so hopefully that will solve that problem.

Is it normal to have a little bit of play in all the ball joints?
(even the ones I've not been messing with)

Check that the servo horn isn't catching on the nose cone. Mine was and with a little work with the dremel I was able to get full lock.

Forgot about that one as well. Well remembered Andy. It only needs a small bit removing.

I checked my tx settings today and the EPA was set as right 93% and left 118%. This is the only way I could get full lock to lock. Before adjusting the servo arm I couldn't get full left. The EPA Max's out at 120% so you can see how close it is for me even with all the adjustments available.

I've checked and the servo horn is missing the nose cone, but I'll remove a little just in case.

It looks like I'll have to upgrade my tx to one with EPA. I've been looking at a Spektrum DX3C, but do you have any recommendations?

It's my first race with the H2 tonight. Can't wait to see how it goes.

My Spektrum tx arrived today. I reset all the steering back to symmetry and set the EPA's.
It's brilliant!!
Perfect steering the same each side.

Unfortunately I'm now running out of excuses for my bad driving.....

im just setting my h2 pro up

i have similiar issues with sub trim central on tx, epa maxed out servo horn vertical ,link from servo to rack at minimum and steering links even at manual specs (20mm)

full left lock is only just acheived where right lock is hard over and straining servo i can reduce lock on tx to the right

but values are left 100%
right 60%

messed about with horn on splines but cant seem to level it out midway

read throughth all this thread am i right in assuming i have no option ?
and im stuck with it ?

Cut 1mm plastic from each ball cup and replace the turnbuckle for the steering with a long M3 12-15mm socket set screw and full tighten them

are you saying that the link between servo horn and rack is too long and needs to be shorter ?

i'm a bit confused do i need servo horn vertical at neutral or offset 1 spline

My end points are set at 120% left and 90% right, which is just about perfect for me.

I think that Nic And's tip is mainly to get the correct length of the arm that comes from the servo. Certainly worth trying.

What you need to aim for (although I apologise if this is obvious) is for the two ball joints at the chassis end of the steering rods to be as central as possible, so the steering rods are the same length. To get this spot on my servo horn is slightly left of central, just seems to work better.

Also double check that it is missing the chassis when you turn left. Mine just misses but I know that another H2 at my club has that problem.

This is the length with standard size servos
I use Savox SC-1257TG
With the low profile servos perhaps you have not to cut the ball cups cause they have a small offset but the rest are the same
I have 90% both left and right EPA on my 4PK radio

It took me a bit of time to get the length of that rod right.

Get it as close as you can then sub trim to get it perfect.

I hate to boast, but I think my rod may be a bit longer than Nic And's

Mine was as short as you can make it, then untwisted 180 degrees at one end and 270/360 at the other.
