Alternatives to the smelly stuff.
Has anyone used Faskolor Faskoat? Is it water based just like the airbrush paint? Without a smell? Does it protect well?
Getting a bit sick of paying out for Valpar/Plati-kote Enamel to seal the shells for protection. It stinks (even though I wear a mask) and for 100ml can for the price doesn't go very far especially for touring car shells (Bugger doing anything larger). Although it does a very good job at protecting them for club race bashers . It's half the reason I only spray a handful of shells a year because it makes me cringe. Thanks for any current feedback. I've used fastcoat, it's basically a clear laquer but not very strong more like a inter coat clear, not suitable for protection on a shell. I use fastrax silver rattle cans for the inside protection and just spray them outside the workshop.

Hey Steve, I use a couple of coats of Johnsons multi surface floor wax. Its not widely available, but most good irnmongers or builders merchants seem to stock it. Used to be called Klear years ago. Popular with the airfix brigade as an intercoat to seal paintwork for waterslide decals. Water-like consistency and goes through an airbrush superbly. Probably not i.c. fuel-proof, but certainly waterproof. Might be worth a try.

I use Halfords clear coat lacquer. Does the job and I like the smell :-)

I'll check that stuff out, being water consistency I'm guessing it's not fun brushing it on? Looks like its under the name of Pledge now? A lot of airfix brigade forums seem to moan about the newer stuff not leaving a clear but yellow or brownish coating but that wouldn't bother me as long as it protects the paintwork from the rain and is scratch resistant. Might indeed be worth a go, thanks for the suggestion. Steven. Last edited by Steveonamission; 12-04-2016 at 11:49 PM. |

Pledge... possibly correct. It brushes on a treat too - I've done both on the airfix stuff, flashes off instantly with a hairdryer.
Worth a look
