Default TRF201 rear wing mount mods?

Perhaps this question says more about my driving that the car.

Am I the only one who thinks the rear wing mount could have been better designed? One rollover and it has come loose. It should not have to be like that. Any great tips for a modification?

like most wing mounts, the plastic can be stripped quite easily. Thats what it sounds like

Before i fitted the 3Racing one, i used to use the Ansmann mad rat ones, they seem to hold their thread longer, and are really cheap to replace.

£3.99 on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310293554593

I used a longer screw and a drop of CA. My wing mounts haven't come loose since.

I thought others would have experienced the same problem. If you look at them, they only use one screw and that is in the bottom, not in the upper part of the the mount, which you would think for a one screw design. The upper part of the area that goes against the shock tower only has a peg and not a screw.

I will try longer screws, CA and look into other options as well.

I drilled an extra hole in my tower below the little peg part and fitted the 2 hole mount from the 501/511 or the mad rat one. Much stronger.

I actually agree with you that the wing mounts are not so good.

Using glue helps, but does not solve. We have been working on a harder material to stop the screw loosening. This works great and should be released in the future.

Default wing mounts

You could try dremelling off a small amount off the back of the wing mount and fitting a 3mm nut. Doesn't take a lot of plastic off, and makes it very strong.

I did this over a year ago and it's never broken the wing mount, rear shock tower, or any other issue of that ilk, probably because the wing mount itself is very soft and tends to bend rather than transmit forces to another part of the rear end.

If anyone wants a picture of the wing mount off the car, let me know.
Car is for sale so it'll not be long before it goes...

The nut trick works very well indeed. I hope that's the only trick you do with your nuts?

I had the same problem, after less than 5 crashes. I think the biggest problem is that the 'pins' that slot into the shock tower are slightly too small in diameter. When the thread gets damaged (which easily happens with the soft plastic*), you can move the wing from left to right on it's mounts because the pins move back and forth in their slots.

The only solutions are to create a lot of friction between the flat spots where the shock tower and wing mounts touch, aka tightening the lot together, or to remove the play/excess space in the slots.

I've put a longer screw in, and the friction is again sufficient to keep the wing from sliding from left to right (for now). I'll get some even longer screws, mount a nut on the back, and I'm going to fill up the excess space in the slots with silicon sealant, glue or something else to prevent the movement. It should be pretty bulletproof after that?

*I do like the soft plastic for it really absorbs the blows, on the chassis and perhaps even the wing a bit.
