Different diffs in different cars.

The gear diffs in my SC10 4x4 are wearing out but are also a known weak point on the car and I was wondering if anyone knew if diffs from other cars would fit.
It's a metric car and the diff is about a third bigger again than a 2wd SC10.
I'm about to order a new diff for the rear which will hopefully come with steel inserts and not brass ones but I just want to consider my options.
