Default New guy looking to race in Farnborough

Hi there, My name is Kevin and for fathers day this year the Mrs and kids got me a brushless ftx vantage buggy (miles better than a 4 pack of beers and some new under crackers). I've already been down on a Thursday to scout the place out and talk to a few of the regulars (who were very helpful and a credit to your club). However one of the things that instantly became apparent is that my car is not as quick, my driving is not as good and I have a lot less spares and other equipment than all of the guys there have. Are there people there that have lower spec cars like mine (or a good car but can't drive it to save there life)? Also would it be possible to get there at 6:30 on the dot and put my car round the track a few times but not take part in the races as I'll only get in the way and don't want to cause a crash with somebody's prize 22, I also don't really want to pay £10 and then put in 3 laps before I get carried away and total my car! Then if all goes well come back and start paying and racing.

Hope to be there on Thursday

Kevin

It really doesn't matter - we all have to start somewhere and you ought to be aware all of us started where you are now and those you see with tables, boxes of spares etc etc all had comparatively little when we started.

No such thing as getting in the way - its all about experience but there is always open practise at the beigging of every night

22's are tougher than nails and they should be able to drive round you anyway

Default get racing

just come along, charge up and get racing, as Chris said open practice from 6.30 and then racing, you wont get in the way we all started in the same place, a buggy, transmitter and charger.

Just get in and have fun.

Loads of help as you have found out.

see you soon

Kevin,. As you will see lots of us claim to be rubbish, but so long as we have fun all is good. The last few weeks we have had some kids practicing before the meeting and then joining us in the races, so long as you don't purposely crash in to another car everyone will be cool with you racing no matter how slow you think you are.

This week it looks like there will a couple of other first timers racing so come down, practice for a bit before the meeting starts then just jump in and race... What do you have to lose.

Chris (proud losi 22 driver!)

Thanks for all the encouragement!! I suppose I'll just have a proper go and see what happens, hit a lamp post at full speed on Sunday and nearly snapped it in half so I guess I can't really do much worse!!!
Thanks again and see you tomorrow.

You have more than I did when I started. First time I raced I used the club car. Everyone was and still is very welcoming at the club. Plenty of helpful advice can be obtained from more experienced racers. Think my claims to being rubbish are fairly valid, but it is a lot of fun. Come along join in and enjoy yourself.

I turned up on Thursday and really enjoyed it, great racing and my car still ran at the end (which surprised me as it was quite cheap in comparison to the others on track) I already know I'll be a Thursday regular providing I don't have to work. I'm looking to buy a transponder and know virtually nothing about them. Does it have to be a certain make so it matches with the equipment at shrccc or will any make work? Does anyone have one that they want to sell? Advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks again.

Good to hear you enjoy your evenings racing. The transponder you want is called a Harry, they are available from http://www.bbksoftware.com/ This works with the timing gear currently used at shrccc, it will also continue to work if/when the timing gear is upgraded, it will also work at other tracks if you go and race anywhere else.
