X4 TE Mods
Hi All,
Just thought i would share with you a mod that ive done to my 4wd. Im not sure if anyone else has thought about this but ive had a mod to the centre gearbox to reduce the angle of the centre shafts. If you look, youll be able to see that ive taken 3mm off the bottom. I've also taken some away from the plastic of the gearbox Not the best explanation but the pictures should say enough. Danny

Thanks for the tip... I'd love an X4... I still might get a blizzard and make some mods. I don't want to have to get saddle packs so the blizzard chassis is better choice for me.

Only problem i can see danny is that now the top decks are at an angel, surely they're putting stress on other areas of the car?

As my rear topdeck is split im fairly sure it'll be a minimal load. As for the front, its held by the screws that hold the steering assembly, so again im pretty sure its fine. Not used it yet, but i think it will be grand.

Fair enough! Whats the thinking behind it? Lower C of G?

Well, ive had an issues with overheating when im really trying. I think its been due to the fact that the centre shafts are at quite a steep angle. The more the angle the more they try and straighen up when under acceleration and as they are fixed they generate heat.
So im trying to get the angle less and this is the way that i have gone about it. I guess i should raise the front and rear diffs, but i dont think thats a great way of doing things. Any yes a plus side is lowering the CofG. I guess after this weekend i will see how it goes Ill keep you all posted

Good idea as i found this when i used to run my cyber 10b which has a similar drivetrain. On the cyber it was the plastic centre mount used to pinch the bearing when the slipper had got it hot and cause exessive friction. Silly question is the motor you run old at all, as when the rotors magnets go soft the motots usually run hotter. |

Ive done the hole under the motor as well i found it dous help but a big help was with changing the drive train to the geared diffs and the car is running alot cooler now.

I can understand the hole under motor, but not the gear diffs. As they would be heavier, I'd imagine. If anything that would make the drive-train less efficient. |

geared diffs give you more instant power as their are no slip in the diffs. previousley i had the caster metal ball diff gears, what i found generated alot of heat and had to rebuild them constantley

Also a positive to running a metal crown and pinion would be the option of a looser mesh causing less friction.
The ball diff shouldn't slip if the slipper is set correctly though, there is a bit of slippage on landings etc but anything else and the slipper isn't doing it's job? Also if you used te caster gears then you would need the balls also as the ansmann balls are smaller causing more wear through movement. Had the same issue.
