1 large or 2 med Batteries

Hi. Enjoyed my first visit today - was a lot busier than I thought it would be.

One thing which hit me was the sheer amount of kit people had, with chargers in corridors not to mention the main room. etc

Therefore, for a beginner like myself who hasn't got a whole heap of spares or parts to warrant a station, what is going to be wise with regards to batteries? Last time I bought a battery was over ten years ago and a NiCad so entering the whole LiPo (fire)world is something new and daunting.

Thus, when I go to JE to pick up an SXX and X12, what battery combo would be best? Would you say 1 larger capacity and C rating, or 2 medium sized ones? Options could be

x1 of Team Orion Carbon Pro 5500mAH 90C 7.4v @ £93.99

or

x2 of Team Orion 4000mAH Rcoket pack 25C 7.4v @ £49.99

I guess it all depends how long these packs would last? Would 1 pack do a day or more like 1 race?

Theres so much to learn with LiPo's your help would be appreciated as always

I find I'm typically using between 1000 and 2000mAh in a race - it depends a lot on the track. The beauty of lipos is that you can top them up at the end of each race, so I will normally only use one pack over the course of a meeting.
However, I prefer to have a second pack available, just in case someone accidentally unplugs your charger.....

I run 5200 30c just one pack and charge them after a race I was getting about 1600 in them after every race which was 16 laps I am running a sxx and 7.5t novak motor in a 4wd i would suggest getting a 8.5t x12 as these motors are very aggresive

Yes, I was thinking of the 8.5 X12 and a 22 pinion as stated in my manual.

So I neednt go for mega expensive battery then so thats good. Tisher - you are running an SXX. Whats the difference between comp and stock spec? Assuming TC is touring car but unsure the difference between the others

When i got back into racing, i got 3 sets of lipo's second hand cause they were cheap, only use one set all day, so sold the other 2.

Im running Vampire 6200 60c they are plenty punchy enough and could easy get 2 runs out of it.

you want the tc spec sxx and the c rate is basically how punchy they are 90c are really punchy I would get round 40 to 50c that would be more than you will ever need i have always bought second hand lipos the ones I run today cost me 25quid off here..then again I have always run 2nd hand cars too

With LRP esc's, Stock Spec means it has special profiles for boosting the performance of stock (10.5 or 13.5t) motors. This feature can be switched off and the esc used as per normal but if thats the case the regular version is just as good.
The TC version is the highest spec model, able to handle the fastest motors. This isn't really needed in offroad though many people figure the extra capacity is worth it.

C ratings are meaningless without capacities. You multiply the capacity by the C rating to get the max current the pack can handle. When you are talking over 5000mAh, in practice anything over 30C will work, but 70C versions are a lot more punchy.
