Default Yokomo 834B runner

I didn’t really warm to this until last year but for some reason decided to buy one as it popped up at the right price to add to the ever growing yoke collection.
It came off eBay for a reasonable price and since then I managed to acquire another 1 and 3/4 of another for a really good price off a friend in Austria. I've since entered this as my 4wd for this years revival .

So this is what I started with

I also ordered a few bits to start with

So to start with the tare down after my new chassis arrived. This is made from 3mm thick carbon with the gearbox part milled down to 1mm to protect the plastic box from hitting the ground unlike the original.

So cracking open the box four it to be fully ballraced unlike the other box I’ve got that’s just got bushing in, it also has the early (apparently) greenish gears. But there all in really good shape and so is the rear diff.

While embarking on this build I’ve been searching for one of these RPS slipper/toque limiters

As luck would have it one just appeared on eBay and with a resnable offer accepted it was on the way to me.

Another thing I stumbled across while searching for parts for this was 2 Mr Lexan 834 bodies they were being sold as originals but it turned out they weren’t when they landed. It was a little disappointing but one was always destin for Steve Haskins to make a mold from and the other will go with the rest of the unpainted yoke bodies I’ve got.
After a couple of weeks I got this through

And then a few days later a couple of bodies in the post so I’ve got to decide between this one and the funco one I convinced him to make last year as to what I’ll use on the final car.

I’ve now managed to get my photobucket playing ball so here’s the gearbox rebuilt

Here’s the slipper all built up waiting to be installed but it’ll probably just end up in a shelf car as I’ve got something else planned for the runner.

I got to add a couple of the alloy bits

All this is really a mock up to make sure it all fits and will work the way I want it to while I’m waiting for bits.
I was ordering some paint I think it was and somehow spotted these and thought I know what I can use them for

I just need to drill another hole for the other screw

I need to make up some front shock mounts as I’m going for the mono shock front I think. I like the twin shocks but I just don’t like the Lohas mount that I’ve got so for now it’ll stay like this plus it looks more authentic.

The chains a bit loose but I’ve got a couple more to try plus I’ve got a lead on new ones.

Pargu Rear shock mounts fitted to front X33 shocks and they go quite well with the new mounting positions I added to the arms.

I need to add a couple of spaces but you get the idea

This is about as far as I’ve got for now and I’m liking how it’s turning out

Not sure what weave it is it’s come from Hong Kong as it worked out about £40 cheaper then to get the same thing made from Fiberlitye. I have got a plate from FL that I need to make a battery tray from and it’s almost identical

Looks just like the stock Schumacher plates which were mostly plain weave from memory, and what I've had/got.

That's a really good start , what motor are you planning to use ? I'm rather jealous of your stock top deck/chain guide , it's the last part I need for my stock chassis Dogfighter .

I know I’m still waiting for my arms to be drilled he’s only had them for about 4 years

Motorwise I was thinking 10.5 but I’m planning a slipper and another transmission twist

My modded runner is running a 10.5t (just got back from thrashing it) and I think 10.5t is really the limit for this chassis , it might do better on track but on a rough surface the lack of suspension travel shows .
Tell us about the transmition !

Oh I just saw something on your gearbox , there's a clear plastic window so you can see the gear mesh , how is it held in place , neither of my gearboxes have the clear plastic window , I got one NIB and I expected it to be there but it was not , at the moment both of mine have a bit of lexan held on by a screw in the front hole for the chain guard but I'd like to do it properly if possible .
Also with the RPS slipper is only one washer keyed to the shaft , the other in the picture seems to have a round hole ?
I noticed that you replaced the front lower arms , I did not know when I first got mine that the alloy arms are a copy of the later production arms and are a little longer than the original ones to give some negative camber , you need later dog bones to match them or they mangle themselves and drop out , I found out the hard way , I only mention it because the car in the first pictures has the original production lower arms fitted and presumably the shorter dog bones , the later ones had plastic arms exactly the same shape as the alloy ones you can still get , hope I'm not teaching grandma to suck eggs .

I think the windows are glued in but I’ve got no idea as that’s how they all came to me.
There is just 1 washer keyed I’ll take it apart and get a pic of it all laid out.
Thanks for the heads up on the dog bones I’ll see what I’ve got but atm there isn’t any in there.
