What servo can you recommend and what servosaver as I see that there isn't one on this car |

The tamiya servo saver seems to be the favourite choice at the moment. Comes with 3 springs to adjust tension and fitment's for different splined servos. Part No 51000

In general most servo savers arn't stiff enough and make the steering feel a bit weird. In my experience you are better off with a decent metal geared servo and using the standard AE servo horn, that way the steering feels right and if you do have a big crash the plastic servo horn will fail before the servo

They come as a pack of four to suit different servo's, AE part number 9180
http://www.teamassociated.com/parts/details/9180/ I used to run a KO with plastic safety gear in my BJ4 at one point and it never let go, though I'd advise you get the metal replacement if you can. I use the AE1015 servo in my 44.1 at the moment with the servo saver glued up. |

I'm in the process of building a BJ4 with a B44 steering assembly, which has an integrated servo saver. It requires some modifications (in my case a previous owner had drilled out a top deck to accomodate the large round plastic tops of the assembly), but is quite doable.
It'll work as well as any B44's steering setup.

Yes, but given the strength of most modern (ish) metal geared servos (even those with plastic geared servos) and hence low risk compared to the significant benefits in terms of steering feel and predictability I'm totally with Rich.
This is entirely based on by experience with the B4 servo saver but now been running a BJ4 off and on for approx a year with a KO2123 which has the plastic saver gear and not had an issue. This servo must be at least 5 years old.

Be warned about running without a servo saver - last time I ran the BJ4, I suffered 2 snapped servo horns in quick succession (I was a noob then). I think I also killed a servo, can't recall what it was though.

I added the B44 steering assembly to mine, imo one of the best changes you can make to a BJ4.

Parts turned up and I got it installed, not at all as hard as I thought it might be. Just a pain that the previous owner(s) has rounded a lot of screw heads. Now just waiting for my SP esc and kopo servos to go with my 6.5 motor
