So, I had couple of flights with my 450, the wind was a problem though and still struggled to work out which way the thing was flying. Had a heavy landing which resulted in 1 broken arm, thankfully everything else was fine. So I started the hunt for some new arms but came to the conclusion that just buying a whole frame kit was probably the most cost effective way of getting spares. After some looking around I decided to get a TBS Discovery clone as the larger longer frame would help with packaging everything in neatly and also the might help work out the direction it is flying in. The result is awesome, had several decent beginner'ish flights and I was much more confident flying it from the first go. Been out with it the last 3 evenings now and loving it, hoping to get home and get out out a bit earlier tomorrow as the light has been starting to fade by the time i've been getting out.

Some video, not very exciting but i enjoyed it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDvS6...Ui7olzIZ2XJl3g

Looks good pal!
Did you adjust the "mixer editor" on the kk2 to compensate for the wider front arms?

Went to flying field tonight with 330.
KK2 1.6++ mixing all set up.

Went for a flip, try 1 - bailed as stick scaling wasn't high enough.
Try 2, nice and high, quad inverted and flew at speed into the ground

Lots of props gone - one motor damaged (buckled the base plate) and KK2 screen no longer working and the board will not arm. Lots of pins were bent, but after putting them back it still does not work. Not happy....

Nightmare.

Does the KK2 power up with a alternative power source? Meaning the USBasp?
If it does it's an easy fix

Hi Col.

KK2 powers up on the USB, but still nothing on the screen. The frame around the LCD lights up though. No beeps, no noise when it powers up and no beep when I press the buttons.

Is it dead

Not necessarily...

I've got to go to work now, but have a search through the kk2 thread on RCG http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1675613
This has happened loads before and most seem to revive them. Means soldering the board, though I think.

I'll have a look tomorrow if you can't find it in that massive 1200 page thread...

Cheers guys !

I've disassembled the 330 now - as I had to get the KK2 out to see if I could fix it - I can't
One motor is shot too so bit of a bummer.
Arm is bust and all 4 props are broken or unusable.

Don't know what happened really, it all happened a bit quick!

Worried i'll do this again now once the new build of the wood frame is done.

Nice setup there Andy, I finally got myself a DJI 450 with a cheap hobbywing controller, still learning to fly, only got manual mode just now and it is setup for my Turnigy 9x. Hoping to upgrade to a naza next month which will hopfully give me some assistance with the controls.

What landing gear is that you have installed ? I tried a cheap ebay £15 special that looked similiar but it broke on my first time out, realising now that I'd probably be better practising my flying without landing gear as it is a big easier.

Also what is that you have used as a canopy ? it looks really good.

Landing Gear was from Ebay - it's not great and I have since taken it off!

I bought the carbon fibre landing gear set that's on ebay (made by Tarot) and it weighs nothing - taken that off now though also as i've taken all the camera stuff off the 450!

The lid is simply a tupperware that I cut down and then re-gluded to make it less deep.

Keeping the KK2 away from harm and any moisture in the air is very important. I killed the KK2 on my 330 after flying it upside down into the grass

Yeah I just bought the Carbon Fibre (Tarot) landing gear but it doesn't seem to be much stronger than the cheap £15 ebay special I had broken previously. Still learning at the moment without any skids installed, but once I get my naza next month and all setup I'm hoping to fly a bit better and one day before long, I'll have the confidence to install my GOPRO underneath and go for some video footage.

Raymond.

Yep - I broke the Tarot landing gear with a heavy landing - repaired it though

With the Naza, I think you have to be doing something silly, or actually fly into something (Like a goal post.. Neal ) to do any damage. It won't let you get it 90 degrees and hurtling towards the ground whilst doing flips

To be fair a KK2 with sensible settings on and auto level is pretty safe. I put the GoPro on the 450 with no problems.

Cheers Andy,

only been flying a week now, and already have a couple of breakages, awaiting another DJI 450 frame kit to arrive, I thought it would be better to have a full kit as spares instead of buying each part individually due to the small difference in price, so far though I'm loving it, almost becoming more addictive that the buggies.

Awesome

How do you find the Naza versus the Kk2?

Also - how's the Naza lite - any difference to the Naza?

Trust me in manual mode it's very east to get into a world of sh1t with the naza. I've done the fully inverted into the ground in a split second trick. Atti mode, with self levelling I can still get out of shape, but GPS mode is lovely and very safe. The only times I've had issue sin gps mode are when a motor connector has failed, or I've hit a goalpost ;-)
