Default 8/11 round 5 race report

8/11 RACE REPORT ROUND 5 - 7TH AUG 2011 DEERDALE

Sunday 7th August 2011 and the Race central tour bus (or should i say buzz - Midland joke) arrived at a Dry and pleasant looking Deerdale track. Deerdale is situated in the heart of the Nottinghamshire country side. The track is a real racers circuit as it has a good combination of technical sections and jump’s. The surface is all Astro.

The proceedings started as normal with a comprehensive drivers Brief which was then followed at 09:10 with a round of practice for all of the 92 drivers ( 70 buggy and 22 truggy). This was then followed by three, 6 minute, qualifying runs of which the best 2 were to count. After seeing the first couple of rounds it was evident that racers new to Deerdale were finding that it is not a Bashers circuit and you have treat it with respect.

Buggy qualifying
Round one for the buggies was dominated with David Bailey and Steven Childerhouse being the only two buggy drivers completing 9 laps. Round 2 say Jon Howells and Greg Hill Completing 9 laps. Round 3 saw Jon Howells showing everyone how to master the track, closely followed by David Bailey. Local young driver Jordan Banks overcame his problems from his first two runs and finished 8th in his final run. At the end of the 3 runs the top 10 places were as follows

1 Jon Howells
2 David Bailey
3 Richard Greenough
4 Lee Bunker
5 Robert Cork
6 John Vickers
7 Ashley Owen
8 Richard McKenzie
9 Ben Riley
10 Steven Childerhouse

Truggy qualifying
Round one did not throw up any surprises as Stan Gill was the only driver to complete 9 laps. Vince Ping was closely behind him with Dean Coupland in 3rd and Peter Wrigglesworth attending Deerdale for the first time bringing it home in 4th. Round 2 and the top 3 places were the same, Stan still doing 9 laps but Vince and Dean getting closer. Round 3 was a complete change round as Tony Drabble came in 1st place, Closely followed by Peter Wrigglesworth and young up and coming driver Arron Girling. The final top places were as follows.

1 Stan Gill
2 Vince Ping
3 Tony Drabble
4 Peter wrigglesworth
5 Dean Coupland
6 Arron Girling
7 Chris Jeffery
8 Werner Markgraaff
9 Neil Sivins
10 Steve Komarek

Finals Buggy
The first final was the Buggy F final. The top 3 which bumped up were

3 Pedro De Oliveira
C Final

B Final

3 Lloyd Pitt
So it was then onto the big one. The Buggy A final. This encounter was to last for 22 minutes. Jon started off in first place and stayed there until lap 2 where David Bailey took up the top spot and stayed there till the end. Jon fluctuated between 2nd, 3rd and 4th place and at the end of the 22 minutes finished 3rd. But the drive of the day in the buggy must have been Leigh Richardson who started off in 12th place and brought it home in 2nd. The final places are as follows
1 David Bailey
2 Leigh Richardson
3 Jon Howells
4 Lee Bunker
5 Ashlee Owen
6 Richard McKenzie
7 Richard Greenough
8 Ben Riley

Finals Truggy
First away was the B Final which lasted for 18 Min. Again the top 3 were to bump up to the A final. They were Steve Bellwood, Keith Bellamy and Michael Markgraaff in 1st , 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The Truggy A final was for 22 min and headed up with Stan gill in TQ. Things were going as planed for Stan until lap 7 when he had a engine cut. It was Arron Girling who took up the pole position for 1 lap then it was up to Vince to lead the pack. This he did for 1 lap when Vince took the lead. Vince then held it for for a further 5 laps whilst Stan was working his way through the pack. By lap 14 he was back on top where he stayed for the duration. The lower places were then closely fought out between Arron, Vince, Peter and Dean. At the end of the 22 Min the top 4 cars were covered by 22.6 seconds. The top 10 places were as follows
