Charging people to come enjoy our "toys"
So I know of a few people that charge people to come watch PPV events and ride their dirt bikes on the track on their land etc. I was just thinking maybe this is a good way to make some extra money. What do you guys think? Would you do something like this? Or have you?

I don't think that would work. I can't get my Mrs to come and watch little car racing but she's always up for watching me ride the MX bike.

Because we want to encourage people into the sport.
Make some money on refreshments or a tuck shop, but don't charge people to watch. (exit soapbox)

It's not a big enough sport to charge people to watch. Best to keep it free to get them interested and potentially into racing.

You have a point but she'll never know unless she tries

As already mentioned don't think it's a wise idea to charge for watching but if you can get members of the public to come and watch for free then there's potentially future racers. I know it has already been mentioned about a tuck shop but have you considered an open day? Maybe worthwhile contacting the local paper and see if you can get them to do an article on the club and arrange an open day and if it is possible have cars to hire out.

Thats what got me started, vintage car rally at Tredegar Park in Wales, saw an RC track and got me hooked. If they charged to watch i doubt id be doing it now. Food and misc stuff tends to get you cash or maybe renting out a monster truck or sc for newbies for five minutes in a newbie basher heat could be a good idea. Say fiver a head per five mins could be a money making scheme but then again youll need trucks to do so might be a bad idea.

Kart clubs don't charge spectators, and with all due respect, karts are a bit more exciting to watch
You can't realistically expect to charge punters just to watch. If you brought along a working car for them to try out that'd be a different cup of tea. |
