Default 1s Lipo from hobbyking & booster, will this work?

hi all, having issues with a single NIMH cell (not bad, lasted 2 years!) so considering getting a LIPO instead and runing that instead of 2 packs of 500Mah NIMH's.

looking at hobbyking i can get one a 5000Mah lipo for £12, so how much would this cope with a nights racing (4x5mins) as i have heard that it should cope fine (or will the 5600 be better?) http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

also what booster will i need? i also have a core 2.4G setup.

i am running a mardave brushless setup, and people have had issues with this with 1s, and again i dont want to buy lipo then find it is of no use!

any advice accepted!

Hi mate, dave @ TOP models has the boosters ;-) same as this http://www.rcracinguk.com/index.php?...oducts_id=4944

I've been running just 1 Reedy LiPo 6500mAh 3.7V 65C which lasts all night with repeaking inbetween heats, but may go to 2 so they get a proper charge due to the voltage output of the Lipo.

just looking at the spec of the ESC and it says

Input Voltage.......4-6cells NiMH/NiCAD (1.2Volts DC/cell)
........................2cells Lipo (3.7Volts DC/cell)
.....minimum input 4.8V maximum input 7.4V

That rules out the 1s lipo then, and probably why a lot of people with the mardave in the club had problems and ended up buying a new ESC.

Although looking positive for the battery now, i used the novak discharger to take it to 0v and then charging it peaked at 350, but now seems to be fine, currently at 3400Mah so may have rescued it, just need to cycle it again to make sure.

it also says,

Features:
1. Boost single Lipo’s BEC supply to 5V for receiver by DC Voltage

great esc! the only issue i find with them is the soldering is allways poor on the receiver plug and needs resoldering.

I run the hobbyking nano-tech 5.6's:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

And this booster:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...r_for_BEC.html

The 5.0 nano-techs are ok, as are the slightly cheaper zippy flightmax 5.8A 60C,s: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...r_Lipoly_.html

I'm going to try the A-spec next, as i've heard they are good also: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

If you hover about on a hobbyking product page, it will offer you a discounted price.

I run one of these, eBay item 150802335892, 2cell Lipo batteries as a receiver pack.
It's very small, use about 100mah per race and practise powering my servo, receiver, transponder and esc.
I am going to add a voltage regulator to make sure I don't fry anything with 8.4v but its all working well currently.
I plug it in the receiver and leave the esc switch off.
Voltage regulator. 140848551636
