Rover 75
I'm open to offers on ideas for this one......
The missus has a T plate Rover 75 (2.5 V6) and since the torrential rain the other night has developed some odd electrical maladies. Wipers stay on with ignition off and key out! Indicators and hazards work, but no indication as such on the dashboard. Full beam indication light no longer working. Electric seat movement no longer working. Radio / screen no longer working. Worst of all it now has to be jumped every morning as it's going flat overnight. Done a bit of google research which shows up a comon fault of a blocked drain near the ECU causing various woes, but these seem to relate more to rough running rather than what we've got. Anyone got any ideas? Solve this one and it's uber brownie points for me.

It's big compared to my VRS but it's a nice motor Garry.
And besides it makes a lovely noise when you plant your foot  Thanks for the link Spud - will follow that train of thought.

As you have said it is most comanly caused by the drain blocking on the near side scuttle panel i have had it where the ecu sends signals to other control units giving more than just running problems so i would start there

Sorry to hear that, but by a strange co-incidence the exact same thing has just happened to my dads old Rover 75.
ECU slowly been rusting for ages due to the blocked drain. Took it to garage, they spent 3 weeks finding a 2nd hand correct match ECU ( few different revisions of them ), took them another week to re-program it & fit it and still there were problems. Took it back a couple of weeks later, another 2nd hand ECU, eventually got it working better-ish, but when it rained the car just died again. Back in the garage, lots of head scratching, electrical problems from the car locking itself and not opening ( dangerous ) to the windows not working and the battery draining itself overnight. Cost him near a grand over the last couple of months for effectively bugger-all. I didnt have time to drive half way across country go over the car for him myself but by that time he had lost confidence in it anyway after 100k virtually trouble free motoring, so it was scrapped this monday and he's just gone and brought a 407 HDi estate.... Shame as the 75 was a very good car when it was working and he loved it. My advice ? If the water has been leaking like Dads has, it will never be the same again, it could cost you serious dosh and you will never trust it 100%. Cut your losses and scrap it. Dad got 250 quid for it scrap...

Don't think she'd be too happy if I bangered it - it may be a V6 but it's an auto.....not great for slinging round an oval.
It's a really nice car tbh and I'm determined to get it sorted. As I said the electrical gremlins are all relating to the auxilliary electrics rather than the engine running which is still sweet as a nut. There's a secondary unit under the dash which controls a lot of the body electrics which is where I'm going to start when I get time.

Glad to say it's all sorted. Had new head gaskets a few weeks back and the garage left an earth lead exposed. This started to corrode and cause the problems. Very weird. Fitted a new battery as well and the old bus flies again.
