Same here, I love that stuff. If I can get a rostrum and a peice of grass sorted it's back to the 90's.
1990's Rudebits consisted of 4lb of grass and mud on the car on a wet winter day!! AMB was not even thought of, and numbers stuck back to back towards the top of your ariel was the way to go, with someone shouting the number out as the car went past to a guy who spent the day tapping in numbers on a keyboard, and Springer had a Guns and Roses style perm. Oh and lets not forget the makeshift rain covers for pitting, a couple of hatchbacks with a tarpaulin attached in the middle!! |

Temac is the dirt track. I loved it there. Traxxas went really well on that track.

Grass is pukka but not good for repeat meetings. A one off yes.... which is why Tony had is huge trailer and Audi 100 CD!!!

'Smoke House Inn' on the rostrum should be your big clue!!!
Grass = heaven Neil is right - we had a trailer that was the rostrum and on it all the track markings - we could of run a meeting anywhere at all.... There were the days of exciting racing for sure and I am sure a few memories for some of you. Nick - I have photos to make plenty blush - LOL

Those pictures remind me off a very dry day at Cheshum, we started out on grass and and as the day went on we ended up on a dust track, i still have the 3rd in the final trophy in my loft. Those where the days where you changed the car as the track surface wore or in rained. There must be loads of tails in peoples minds.

TEMAC, and methinks those pics are from the 1993 Worlds. If you look very, very closely, you'll see me doing my Race Director's bit in the race control caravan!!
That was a great track, as was the tarmac track and oval behind it. Trashed by vandals and sadly didn't last long after that big event. All my off-road experience was on grass or dirt, with a very early showing of a bit of astro at the original EPO track in Kent. Best tracks in those days for me were Taunton and Southport, both a challenge. Those were my days! |

Yup, Nick and Chris are both right, Mildenhall track, operated by Bury Buggy club. Hated it when i first went there as was first time i'd raced on astro, however, wished it was still around a couple of years ago as it's only a bit over half hour away from me.

Tony, I'm working on an english translation of "The History of RC cars"... any images from Worlds or Euros would be highly appreaciated! Or fun stories!
Norwegian language original here: www.ymr.no/historie.htm Actually we are now in the process of making this a formal piece of the norwegian technical museum. Which will ensure that it is stored for all eternity Btw Tony, did you ever hear from Craig Drescher as to what cars he won his Euros wins with? http://www.ymr.no/hf1_10or.htm

I did a Radio Race Car race on the TEMAC Basildon worlds track shortly after the Worlds, Jimbo pearson turned up to race.
It was the first time we'd ever had to buy those silly BIBX tyres from Schumacher as they were the only thing that worked but even then only lasted about 1 run!!!
