Default Sanwa 451 range problems

Has anybody else had this issue where the receiver's range suddenly drops to about 10-15 feet making it useless

Now had 3 do this to me.

First 2 went back to SMD and were replaced for a small fee (great service by the way) with the diagnosis being damaged co-ax in the aerials.

So, another one goes yesterday. I'm thinking this has to be the aerial so I open the case, unplug the aerial & test it with a multimeter. Continuity (beep test) & resistance are fine on both parts - co-ax & sheath indicating the aerial is unbroken inside & no amount of wiggling will change that

Re-fitted, still no range

I know loads of people with these receivers & no-one else seems to have had this issue...

I've had 3 451rx's go, and they can't be repaired either.
Sent them back to SMD and replaced straight away, great service.
One of the ones that went was brand new with the transmitter.

Did they fail in the same way as mine i.e. go out of range at 10-15 feet away?

I just wanted to know whether anybody else has replaced an aerial to cure this particular fault?

I'm reluctant to replace another rx for a 1 minute plug in fix, or replace the aerial only for it to do the same

Yes the same as yours, and a new aerial won't fix it i tried that.

The first one i had go when the radio first came out a couple of years ago, I sent to Derek Bailey and it was sent back as he couldn't repair it, so I contacted Sanwa direct and had to send it back to them in Japan, after about 3 months they came back saying that a capacitor was causing the fault, and they would replace it FOC minus the postage (was about £10)
Your best bet is to send it to SMD and let them help you with it.

just out of interest what ESC you using ?

i had to send back 3x 451 rx loss signal from 15 to 20 feet so i was using speed passion reventon pro at the time in space of 8 month that it been replaced by smd under warranty.

so i decided to ditch Speed passion esc for Nosram comet esc which it been spot on since march 2014.

Had a similar problem but it was the TX aerial at fault. Changed the aerial and never had a problem since
