Default aside from the obvious... what are shock protectors for?

I'm interested to know why shock protectors are mandatory at BWOC?
Can anyone enlighten me please?

It's to protect the racing surface from a flipped car (the shock tops/towers can rip astro and carpet if a car is flipped onto its roof)
