What a day had by all. Competitive racing. Healthily populated 2 and 4wd classes. A very popular track layout commented in by all as a credit to the club.
And what's more the sunshine came out in the afternoon and led into a lovely warm afternoon for the finals.
2wd qualifying gave James Lucas the TQ for the day with a clean sweep of 1sts with his TeamC whilst 4wd was hotly contested between Stuart McCabe and Carl Howard. Stuart had the edge on Carl but it's great to see battles like that going on.
At the other end of the field there were 3 new drivers who had never been on an off road track let alone competed. One was a touring car regular who brought along his Tamiya Gravel Hound and smiled all day even with the odd breakage. Another was the father of one our regulars with his son's previous car. Again he had touring car experience but off road was all new to him but he was into the swing of things only too quickly
.
The final new competitor was a complete newbie. He'd used rc cars amongst his friends and had taken the plunge with a KF and decided to come racing. This to me is te nicest story of the day. He came along, kit built in hand and the club regulars just helped him across the board. Setup, loan tyres and wheels and guide him through the course of the day. He loved it. This is what I personally love about Surrey & Hants, everyone is welcome and we've never forgotten where we all started and what it was like to start out there.
