Default Lee Martin takes BRCA Rallycross Nats RD 2 - Coventry

Lee Martin took the TQ and overall win at this weekends BRCA 8th Rallycross national at Coventry. UPDATE - REPORT ONLINE HERE

Round two of the series got off to a bad start with rain spoiling the fun for some - but Sunday was pretty much all sunshine.

In the final it was really a battle between Lee Martin and Elliott Boots - these two were 'ON IT' all weekend. Lee made an early error and had a little roll which allowed Ellliott past. Elliott crashed at the end of the straight and Lee was back in front - a fair pass by Elliott saw him take up the lead once more as Lee's car just got a little out of shape coming into a corner. Fuel stops started to scatter the drivers a little but the battle between these two was still very much on until disaster struck Elliott - a few corners before he was due to come in and refuel his car flamed out and it was essentially over for him - but taking 4th overall after such a setback showed his pace.

Lee Martin took the overall win by over half a minute from Neil Cragg in second and Darren Bloomfield third.

Thanks to Answer-RC we'll be attending all the BRCA 8th rallyX nationals and will have a full report online very soon. Big thanks to Pete at Answer along with Tony Truman for helping sort some 'issues' out. Really great series - about time it got some coverage.

Don't worry it'll be a good read

I don't think I will put the video online - I asked for time to switch on my cameras but wasn't given any so basically had to run like a lunatic to switch on my audio - then three different video cameras around the track. Unfortunately one was way out of focus and I didn't get chance to check it. Otherwise I think it would have been fairly easy to string together a video of the final as I pretty much had most all the track covered. Still - I'll use 4 video cameras at Wakefield. Really disappoiinted after all the effort to not have chance to make final checks and get everything recording nicely. But I'll learn for next time.

I think the finals could do with a grid photo also - people want to see the cars so why not spend the 2 minutes to get the mechanics to line the cars up grid style (along the pipe or however) so all us reporters (me) can get some nice shots of the cars and promote the sponsors that put so much money into sending their drivers to these events. Just an idea.

I tend to get hated for having ideas like this - so feel free to verbally abuse me

You should be praised for even mentioning and giving them that idea.

If the people at the race can't take 2 minutes to do just that, help out sponsors and get their name/car and or pics of themselves online to get promoted on the best RC forum then they have definitely been sniffing to many exhausts...

Im sure a lot of people that pay for them selves would think its great with a little show and tell. Get ya name out there so shops etc know you are about.

I agree with you Jimmy. More needs to be done in terms of advertising and press to help boost the hobby in the public eye. Also boost our nationals as a series to rival any race over the world. The quality of drivers is definately there, its about time that the promotion followed suit.
Tony has been doing a good job with helping move things along and with that little extra oOple push, it could be really great.

Keep up the good work.

If we canot brush some water of the track what chance of you got taking a few minutes out to get some really shots of the cars lined up on the grid ready for the big final

I know it is all done on a very tight schedule and try to keep to this but a few minutes to promote the hobby and also the cars and the drivers i do not think this would make a lot of difference to the day

May be speak to the Rally x Nat Team and see what they say about it

But all in all Jimmy you and me both were running around like a blue arse fly no wonder lights out by 9.00 pm on Saturday night for me

Great Report thanks Jimmy!

I think your problem is in the world of 1/8th you are not in the inner sanctum! give it time and they will introduce to the joining ritual, normally involves drinking unknown fluids, setting part of your body on fire and then pissing in an openly public way whilst singing jolly tunes. Also you need to smother yourself in nitro and shit till you smell like a nitro boy!! After that you will be more welcome!!
But right now your just a Geek!!!!!
BTW I did not make any of that up I have pictures of said ritual!!!!Nearly always Involves Mick Cradock.
